2yo birthday present ideas?

Hello,

I'm looking for some ideas for my little boys birthday - he will be 2.

He still has toys from Xmas that he hasn't used yet so I don't want him to just get a load of toys again as they go mostly untouched as he has a few favourites.

He LOVES cars/trucks etc, obsessed with Bing (bunny) so we have picked up the talking sula and bing toy already, loves colouring in but crayons only haha.

Just looking for any ideas really, I'm feeling like a rubbish parent as I just don't know what you usually get two year olds for birthday (last year we got him toys) and asked for mostly vouchers off family for his winter wardrobe (his birthday is start of august).. what do people usually get their DS/DD?

Thank you!!Grin

you could look at getting him a bike? The littlebig bikes below are suitable from ages 2-7, as they start as a balance bike and the frame can expand to make it into a proper bike once your dc is ready

Sand pit
Paddling pool
Toddler swing
Scuttlebug or trike
Aquadoodle mat
Giant piano mat
Star light projector for his room
Books
Play dough
Dressing up clothes
Play tent and tunnel
Slide

mam0918 · 13/06/2020 16:42

we are getting ours a Bing too

other gifts I have or am planning:
a bike
a brain game (where you fit shapes together)
a toy remote control (he loves remotes)
a bead rollercoaster
and a personalised book
but I think Bing will be his favorite lol

If you son likes cars he might like a remote control one, our son got this one for xmas and loves it - www.amazon.co.uk/Tippi-First-Radio-Control-Car/dp/B072BZ483F?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

I'm planning on getting my LO a scooter

Jessy2903 · 13/06/2020 21:32

Vtech ice cream cart. My 2 year old has played with it everyday since getting it for Xmas. It's the first toy everyone plays with them they come round! X

orangejuice1 · 13/06/2020 21:55

My ds is turning 2 in August too. I'm planning on getting a bike or a scooter that comes with a removable seat as a main present.
Other than that baby shark stuff, maybe a puzzle of some sort.

His older brother has just got a kids tablet, and I'm debating getting one for him as an occasional use and distraction thing. I'd rather he didn't have one so early so I'm still thinking about that one.

Dolls house for Bing to live in.

EezyOozy · 13/06/2020 22:30

Ikea kitchen x

2020times · 13/06/2020 22:32

Kitchen if you've got space. DS got his at 2 and still plays with it every day (now 3.5yrs)

HarrietM87 · 14/06/2020 08:35

Kitchen and toy food and pots and pans. Can just get the food and pans if no room for a kitchen and they can use any old table/box. It’s been hours of fun for my 2 year old boy. Also a hoover and some brushes. He loves to copy us!

Mrsfussypants1 · 14/06/2020 08:39

Ikea kitchen (hard wearing, spacesaving and customizable)
balance bike
mini micro scooter
sand/water table

Mrsfussypants1 · 14/06/2020 08:41

oh and second the vtech ice cream cart. Grandaughter is now 4 and still plays with hers too. Doesn't look like it will be getting past on for a while yet.

converseandjeans · 14/06/2020 10:05

Micro scooter
Balance bike
Trampoline
Football & small net
Paddling pool
Zoo pass (once they open up obviously) can be used all year

At that age they don't really understand money so you could get some premium bonds or put money in savings. They can then build on that every year.

Nix2020 · 14/06/2020 10:22

My DS is two in July.

I've went for Ravens burger puzzles they only have a few parts
A shaking robotic dog thing I think it's called soggy doggy
A Scooter will be his big present, new bath toy and hot wheels.

His grandparents have agreed to get him a new pair of shoes once clarks is allowed to open (Scotland).

I'm undecided if I should get a chalk board or not I feel I've spent more this year on his birthday than I normally would but we've been trapped in the house for a long time now.

Charlottejade89 · 14/06/2020 11:07

my dd is 2 in July and I'm really u sure what to get her. She has loads of toys that she hardly plays with she just loves playing outside so i was thinking either a balance bike or scooter. Does anyone have ant suggestions as to which she might find easier to use out of a bike or scooter? Shes quite dinky so I'm just abit concerned that a balance bike might be too big for her to use properly and it will just get left in the shed for a year

Lily2020 · 14/06/2020 11:21

My dd is 2 in July, she is getting:
Wooden ice cream set
Wooden bun set
Bubbles
Little backpack
Few bits of clothing
Teepee (from mil)
Sandpit & hobby horse (from my parents)

bingsulaflop · 15/06/2020 18:44

@Charlottejade89 I got my LO a scuttlebug the three wheel ones but you can get four wheel and he loves it, he was a bit unsteady with it at first but soon got the hang of it, bonus too it folds up flat for journeys out and about in the car x

My DS is 2.5 years and his favourite toys are

Balance bike (got it at 2 but started to really get the hang of it at 2.5)
Wooden ice cream and cake set
Puzzles
Wooden train set (we plan to build this up over Christmas and birthdays)
Books
Play Doh
Orchard Games

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 16/06/2020 22:19

Also might not be feasible for everyone, but we bought a raised playhouse with a slide for the garden and it’s been a huge hit and saved our sanity during lockdown! Money very well spent IMO.

FrugiFan · 16/06/2020 22:30

Brio train track (or cheaper equivalent!)
Balance bike
Garden toys - slide, sand pit, water table etc.

FairfaxAikman · 16/06/2020 22:34

We got DS a balance bike and it was definitely his favourite present

Flynn999 · 16/06/2020 22:34

When our ds was that age he got stuff like;
Balance bike
Scooter
Slide/swing
Water table
He loves cars so toot toot trains/track may be good for him. Mine loved his and you can add to it really easily. Alternatively brio if you want wooden stuff.
Play kitchen/workbench etc.
Car mat (the sort with the roads on)
Sand pit with toy diggers/dump trucks etc.
Hot wheels cars.
Remote control cars. You can get really simple to control ones for 2 year olds.
Some kind of ride on car/bike/digger etc.
Books
Playdoh

@Charlottejade89 we got ds a balance bike and a scooter for his 2nd, he’s also tiny. We found the bike was the better toy. We got “my first bike” from smiths toy store (£25?) and it was small enough for him. He mainly played with it inside whilst he got the hang of it. We found the scooter to be harder going, he’s nearly 4 and is only really starting to play with it. However if you go for a scooter get one with 2 wheels at the front and 1 at the back, as opposed to the more traditional 1 at the front and 2 at the back. Otherwise they run into their ankle every time they try to scoot, ds couldn’t get his balance well enough to keep his foot far enough away to stop the back wheel running into his foot.

123Dancewithme · 16/06/2020 22:36

My DS is 2 in July. His main present will be a wooden train set. He loves books as well so he is getting some new ones.

Crabbo · 16/06/2020 22:36

Balance bike, scooter and play kitchen have all been big hits with mine from 2 on. Also doctors kit, baby doll and buggy, train set.
