Thanks Malaleche!

fihi · 22/09/2007 23:31

glad u put link on. Am enlightened.

mamama · 22/09/2007 23:33

a) I cut the stem off completely and I can still get it out

b) I don't think I cut mine straight but it is short enough not to bother me.

c) When do you hear the squelching noises? I think it is normal for it to make wierd noises when you insert & remove it - mine certainly is loud at time

d) When mine is in properly I don't really feel it. If I can feel it, I take it out and try again - usually it just needs to go up higher.

e) I'm a bit now as I'm with F&Z - I just use a normal pan. Is that really disgusting? I mean, the mooncup has been washed before I boil it and isn't the point of boiling that it sterilizes everything? Presumably the pan as well as the mooncup?

f) keep practicing!

If i can just completely hijack this thread for a moment......

I only found out last night what a Mooncup was.

I know you ladies have to deal with these things and us men don't have a clue - BUT I STILL THINK YOU ARE ALL MAD.

NannyL · 22/09/2007 23:38

IMO a mooncup is SOOOO much easier than a tampon

i only eve have to think about it once per 24 hours for a start!

  • you can never run out, and dont ahve to carry spare around with you etc!

Its the best

pinkspottywellies · 22/09/2007 23:39

I am also a member of the filthy pan brigade. I meant it is wine glass shaped and bigger than I expected it to be btw not as big as a wine glass!! lol

VeniVidiVickiQV · 22/09/2007 23:40

Am still too scared to try one. Have too many issues to feel comfortable about trying although have nearly bought once or twice.

If they were selling for 50p I would experiment....unfortunately that bargain appears to be a myth [dagnammit]

fihi · 22/09/2007 23:43

I'm with VVVQV. nearly tempted./ Go on, convince me girls

VeniVidiVickiQV · 22/09/2007 23:46

God my post sounds all cryptic - i just meant that I have very heavy and painful periods right now and I dont think i could put up with experimenting when quite frankly it feels like someone poking a knitting needle up my fanjo for the first three days of the month, let alone a long stemmed wine glass.......

VeniVidiVickiQV · 22/09/2007 23:47

Hmmm, I'm thinking now that maybe you all preferred cryptic....

Bewilderbeast · 22/09/2007 23:47

I'm still having trouble getting mine out. I finally got the hang of getting it in but even bearing down, pinching the bottom (when I can get to it, apparently I have a very small opening cough ) and pull hard on the stem which I daren;t cut off it still takes me a good 5 minutes to get the bugger out. Any tips?

Malaleche · 22/09/2007 23:48

What´s there to be scared of?
Even if only for ecological reasons it´s worth a try. How many mooncups do you see washed up on beaches?
I know a minority are not convinced after trying a mooncup but the vast majority are. Honestly, I have sometimes been tempted to do a sticker campaign in public loos...

pinkspottywellies · 22/09/2007 23:49

Bewilder - try kind of folding it around your finger so it's like when you put it in. Er... does that make sense?

hunkermunker · 22/09/2007 23:49

I cut the stem right off mine before I even tried it. I KNEW it wouldn't aid the process, shall we say?!

VVV, I looked in my local Boots for you - they were 20 quid still. Want one as a wedding present? [inappropriate]

mamama · 22/09/2007 23:52

VVQV, you can practice in between periods

Bewilderbeast, I twist & tilt it slightly when I take it out - have you tried that?

Really, they are fab!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 22/09/2007 23:56

Well, certain movements and other body functions increase my period pains. Thrusting something else up there (cant use tampons for same reason) worries me somewhat.

But, more importantly - I flood atm in the first few days. (Yes, I really need to go back to GP....). I'm concerned that leakage will be an issue, in the style of a dam busting.......

Also, I had contact lenses before and couldnt get those out. Had to get DP to do it for me.......Now, if i struggle with THIS, I cant see him obliging

Bewilderbeast · 22/09/2007 23:59

Will give it a go next time. I put it in low but I have real trouble even getting to the bottom of it to grab hold of - maybe I just have stubby fingers.

VVVQ I have horrendous heavy periods and I actually think the mooncup helps, somehow they don't seem as bad. I don't know if that's because they hold more than a super plus tampon or if it's because you don't get that nasty dry draggy sore feeling you get with tampons. Which is partly why I'm so anxious to get the hang of it so I can use them outside of the house. Right now it's such a pallaver getting the thing out that work would send out a search party for me thinking I'd done a bunk.

pinkspottywellies · 23/09/2007 00:00

I used to used STs because I got worse period pain with tampons but the mooncup is fine.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 23/09/2007 00:02

ST's?

pinkspottywellies · 23/09/2007 00:03

sanitary towels. Sorry for being cryptic!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 23/09/2007 00:03

I get the nasty dragging feeling without tampons...

Malaleche · 23/09/2007 00:03

sanitary towels

FrannyandZooey · 23/09/2007 00:04

Pan filthers of the world unite and take over

am to say I never even considered it to be a problem. Perhaps I'll get another pan. I can see people might feel funny about it, if they knew.

UCM · 23/09/2007 00:05

The only thing that stopped me using mine was false nails, {don't ask} but as I am having them very short now, I am looking forward to using mine next time.

I would put mine in the dishwasher, if I ever get used to it.

Bewilderbeast · 23/09/2007 00:05

Th first time I used the mooncup at night I was completely paranoid but it's the only time I've ever been able to get out of bed in the first 3 days without flooding myself, or the bed, or worse the carpet, I was pretty impressed.
