Hi my son is 11 and will be starting high school in september. When he was about 3 around 2 months after starting nursery he started with really bad stomach cramps and constipation since then we have been going round in circles seen all sepicalists etc been on movicol which he now is supposed to have every day he has always been a bit of a jekyll and hyde really loving one min and then just snaps not much patience etc he has for the last 3 years complained about his stomach hurting every day and you can see that he is hurting he didnt eat much . Anyway since he has been off school with lockdown etc he has seemed so much better he is eating more and not once said his stomach is hurting and now doesnt really need the movicol im just wondering if it could be anxiety he has? Has anyone got any experience of this in children his age? Ive spoken to him and he says he is not worried about anything has lots of friends and does well in school etc

My son is only 6 but we notice that stomach pains and loose stools are a sign he is particularly stressed and anxious. On a side note when I had high stress a couple of years ago I had lots of stomach issues ( putting it politely 😂).

I think it is a possibility it could be related to anxiety or worsened by anxiety. I assume if it’s been going on so long you have already looked into possible physical causes like food allergies etc.

I followed a really great Facebook page that had lots about anxiety in children. It was by the author of “hey warrior” ( a great book) but can’t remember her name.

Yeah we have looked into all allergies etc and cant find anything he has had all blood tests etc aswell and everything was fine. It is looking like it is anxiety or something like that its just hard to get my head round as ive never really suffered from it and he is happy etc hard to understand what he would worry and be anxious x
