When did your LO walk?

Sorry if this has been done to death.

My daughter is 14 months old and, it appears, no where near walking. She can pull herself up, can stand unaided for about 5 seconds, and crawls very well, however she has no interest at all in taking any 'steps'. She doesn't cruise around the furniture, and if she pulls herself up on something just stays there and kind of bobs up and down. She'll walk a few steps aided but then loses all interest and sits down on her bum.

I'm not exactly worried, but I am finding it a bit weird that so many of my mum friends have walking babies but mine is not interested, and to be honest she's an absolutely lump and I'm sick of carrying her around!

17 months, 12 months, 19 months and 14 months

ScarfLadysBag · 05/06/2020 19:27

Oh and in our small NCT group, one started walking at 12 months and the rest all started within two weeks of each other at 13/14mo.

DD 9 months, absolute nightmare
DS almost 2

Found it much, much harder with my early walker.

DD 10 months DS 9 months but both late talkers. I know which I'd prefer! Early walking with no sense of danger is a nightmare!
She will probably suprise you and just suddenly walk confidently I don't think you need to worry yet but you could always mention it to your health visitor if you have one.

2tired2bewitty · 05/06/2020 19:32

22 months, but she was diagnosed with benign hyper mobility disorder, and to be honest she’s still at 10 noticeably less good at running and climbing stairs than her peers. Doesn’t seem to bother her though.

Iloveacurry · 05/06/2020 19:33

DD1 at 15 months and DD2 at 16 months.

Bubbletrouble43 · 05/06/2020 19:34

My 3 were 11, 12, and 13 months. My friends ds was 19 months. He started school last September and is incredibly bright. I wouldn't worry.

Aloadofbolony · 05/06/2020 19:34

Both bang on 12 months.

Dougalthesyrianhamster · 05/06/2020 19:35

Day before first birthday

Reader1984 · 05/06/2020 19:36

14 months. But every child is different!

swaywithme · 05/06/2020 19:39

DS1 10 months, but he didn't say a word until he was 2 and was still in nappies at 3. They're all different.

MattBerrysHair · 05/06/2020 19:40

I don't think, to a point, that age of starting to walk has much bearing on how physically capable a child will be in the long run. Ds1 was 11.5 months and is very clumsy and uncoordinated now as a 12 year old (he has ASD which often goes hand in hand with such things), whereas his friend of the same age was 19 months when he first walked. This boy quickly surpassed DS1 in agility and gross motor skills and by age 2 was scaling climbing frames and walls like a mountain goat!

CupCupGoose · 05/06/2020 19:41

DC1 9 months
DC2 10 months.

I don't think many people belive me about DC1 but it's true. They were both slow to talk though.

ginandgingers92 · 05/06/2020 19:41

My lazy son didn't even start crawling until 2 weeks after his first birthday 🤦🏼‍♀️ and then walked at around 13/ 14 months. She'll get there! :)

polkadotpixie · 05/06/2020 19:42

DS took his first steps at 15 months and properly started walking at 16 months

He crawled, cruised and climbed for months prior

I was really worried at the time but if I had another late walker I'd be much more relaxed 2nd time round

He's a very good talker at 21 months now but all his physical milestones have been slightly behind, he still only has 8 teeth!

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 05/06/2020 19:44

DD1 - 12 months
DS - 17 months
DD2 - 12 months

Hold on there OP, I was losing my wig about DS but at 17 months he just toddled one day and basically walking through obstacles (inc shopping bags and his sister) Terminator-style within 6 weeks, it was nuts.

BendingSpoons · 05/06/2020 19:44

DD 15m (cautious, had been crawling and standing for ages)
DS 9m (definitely not cautious!)
DH 9m
Me 19m (lazy clearly!)

Aquamarine1029 · 05/06/2020 19:44

My son started walking on his first birthday, during his party. I think he wanted to put on a good show!

My daughter started running like an Olympic champion just as she turned 8 months old. It's a special kind of hell I wouldn't wish upon anybody. An 8 month old baby has no business running about!

BadAlice · 05/06/2020 19:47

Almost 17 months. I walked at 9 months so it was a bit of a shock to me! DH was similarly ‘late’ though and they have a very similar personality. He crawled fairly early, got really good at it and saw no reason to walk! He’s running around now at 21 months although he’s still much more cautious than other toddlers with things like stairs. I think it’s just in his nature to err on the side of caution so chose not to walk until he was sure he was steady. We never had any of the ‘walk a few steps, fall on bum’ stage.

Evennow · 05/06/2020 19:50

12 months (boy)
15 months (girl)
10 months (girl)

Hedgehog44 · 05/06/2020 19:52

8 month. Apparently I did it at 6 (I think that's why I'm so short; I reckon my bones buckled!!!). He was late talking and horrendous to wean though. They are all so different. His friend didn't walk until about 15 months but he was so vocal and understandable whereas all DS did was make weird noses!

HarrietM87 · 05/06/2020 19:55

DS took his first steps the week before his first birthday and was walking confidently after about 2-3 weeks. In our NCT group one walked at 10 months and the other 5 were 16-18 months. They’re 2 now and you can’t tell who walked earliest.

meow1989 · 05/06/2020 20:02

Ds crawled at 8 months and walked at 13 months. He had taken a few precarious steps and wouldn't go to be one night. He suddenly got up and did a lap of the room.

Sexnotgender · 05/06/2020 21:12

Found it much, much harder with my early walker.

I know several mums with very early walkers and they said it was a bloody nightmare 😂 I’m happy with my 16 month just beginning to toddle potato.

onetwothreeadventure · 05/06/2020 21:22

9 months for waddling around, about 1 by the time they could run around steadily. Youngest is 14 months and spends hours trying to master her elder siblings balance bike and scooter. I reckon I must have high blood pressure from watching.
