15 month old fever up to 40

My daughter has had a fever now for today, last night and yesterday evening. She is taking calpol which brings it down nicely for 4 hours at which point she will be content to sit and watch tele or play a bit but then as soon as it wears off, the temp comes back . At worst it's been 40.5. She is so distressed when her temp rises again. She is drinking lots and eating out of Ella kitchen pouches (literally sucking the purée out!!!) as coincidentally she is also teething and doesn't like a spoon touching her mouth or eating food with her fingers . She has 4 molars coming through all at the same time .

Does this sound like a teething fever ? I have read that the two aren't related but wanted other mums experiences . At what point would you mums seek medical advice for this if it's doesn't go ?

Obviously I am keeping a close eye on her and will seek advice as soon as I feel I need to

That is too high for a teething fever. It may be tonsillitis/ear infection or something else but in my experience a temperature that high needs checking out as it may need treatment.

I'd phone 111. They will send paramedics if necessary. Strip her right off to a nappy. Keep fluids up. I'm assuming no one has Covid symptoms at home?

@Cutesbabasmummy @HenSolo
Thank you for your replies
I took her to the GP this morning and he checked her over and said that she isn't showing any signs of infection anywhere , and suggested it was due to teething , she does have several molars coming through all at once poor thing !
It so hard to know what to do especially as there is so much conflicting info on teething and fever .

That's good news. Poor little one xx

What's she normally like when teething? When my DD was teething she got a 40 degree temperature without fail every time. But she's always been prone to high temps, never had a 38 degree one, it's always around 40 so I personally wouldn't worry.

If you are worried though definitely call 111 for some reassurance.

@BarbiesWorld that's really reassuring thank you so much! Can I ask how long it usually took for your little one to recover from the temp? We are coming to the end of day 3 at the mkment and still fevering (even though the doc checked her out today and said he wasn't concerned and suspected it was the molars coming through )

@mamatoizzywizzy it generally lasted until they cut through so between 3 and 5 ish days.

Hope LO is feeling a bit better today Smile
