Really struggling to get my 6 month old to nap in crib- where do your babies nap?

Mine started napping in the cot between 4 and 5 months. Before that she napped in my arms.

Selfsettling3 · 29/05/2020 19:59

Sling, occasionally pram and only the last week in bed.

On me! She’s 24 weeks and screams her head off if she’s in the cot during the day. At night she’s absolutely fine 😳

On my lap currently. I have such a numb bum Sad

But in all seriousness, my 4mo DD mostly naps on my lap at the moment. I find I can get her in the cot for the first nap of the day and then I struggle for the rest of them for some reason. Things were a little better before she hit the 4mo sleep regression. I often try and fail to get her into the cot and have to then try to get her back to sleep which isn't a fun task when I've spent so long trying to get her to nap in the first place! So I often now don't bother trying. Will try again in a week or two.

On my lap, or in a sling. Maaaaaybe in his buggy while it's being pushed along. I can sometimes slide him off my lap and wedge him on the sofa next to my leg. Very, very occasionally I can transfer him into his crib, but it's a high-risk activity as he generally wakes up and yells within a couple of minutes, and he's so sad in the heat at the moment that it's not worth the bother. (He's 8 weeks).

rottiemum88 · 29/05/2020 20:21

On my bed, has done since around 10/11 months. Won't tolerate the cot whatsoever, despite our repeated efforts. He's 16 months

MeadowHay · 29/05/2020 20:21

At 6 months mine napped in a mixture of pram and on top of me/DH after being rocked in our arms or legs, sometimes we could slide her over on to the sofa without waking her (but then obviously couldn't leave her lying there alone anyway!). Or sometimes in the baby carrier and occasionally could be put down in the crib from that without waking but was hit and miss.

On me or in the sling (19 weeks). At night in her next to me crib if I'm lucky, and only then until the first night feed - after that we co sleep.

I thought she'd be like DS, who went to sleep by himself in his cot from about 16 weeks. It might have helped that he would take a dummy - DD needs to bf to sleep most of the time Blush and my boobs aren't big enough to hang over the cot Grin

Oriflamme · 29/05/2020 20:45

5 months, mostly in his crib (& we are now trying him out in his big cot so he gets used to it) but he only does half an hour in there. He'll do an hour or so in the sling or indefinitely on a human. Slowly getting better with persistence and low stress over naps

Purplequalitystreet · 29/05/2020 20:51

In his cot, but that's only been for the last 3 days. Before that I was glued to the sofa

kyles101 · 29/05/2020 20:58

I think 6 months was when he finally started napping in his cot. For a couple of weeks before I put him in it to play at the bottom end so he had positive associations with being in there, and then just popped him in one day and he went down! He'd been very clingy and would only nap on me up until then. At first the naps were pretty short but now at 9 months he has 1.5 hours in there morning and evening and he sleeps in there through the night (we moved him into there for night sleep at just shy of 8 months)
Good luck, personally if the nap wasn't looking likely I'd pick him up and try again 10 minutes later rather than letting him get worked up.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 29/05/2020 21:34

9 weeks - in his pram carry cot in the living room.

Rubyscute · 29/05/2020 22:32

8 mo dd naps on me whilst bf for the most part. Or on dh in sling. I've lost the will to try change for the time being. If she doesn't get her naps the evenings are almost unbearable!

WhatASadLittleLifeJane · 30/05/2020 07:27

5 month old in a rocking chair that vibrates, on me or in his pram. At night sleeps 12 hours straight in his cot, will scream if put anywhere near it during the day!

Fuscialuscia · 30/05/2020 09:42

Thank you all so much for getting back to me! It’s really reassuring to know that others are just focusing on making sure the baby naps rather than where they nap- sometimes I just worry so much about making my baby overtired that it’s just not worth trying to train them to be in the crib.

My 18 month old has only napped in her cot once 🙄 she usually has her nap in the pram. Sometimes we transfer her to a little mattress on the floor. But at 6 months i think she was mainly napping on me

Eggcellent29 · 30/05/2020 18:03

Naps are always in the sling, sleeps in his next to me at night

Why he is happy to be in the cot at night but not at any other time is a mystery! But I’m not going to waste both our lives fighting to get him into it, the sling is fine (although my back is not aha)
