NEWBORN CLOTHING

I know that I should not purchase much newborn clothing as babies do not wear them for a long time,if they wear them at all. I do need to get some more sleep suits in newborn size though, and I am looking for advice on how many more to purchase. I have loads of vests for underneath, and plenty of everything else, but only 3 sleepsuit/all-in-ones at the moment. How many more should I purchase? I will have him in those for the majority of the day/night. I have a few 'outfits' that have been given to me,but I don't honestly like them,so I doubt I will really use them. Thank you!

My honest advice would be to not buy anything in newborn sizes. Its such a waste of money.

Id buy things that are 0-3 months or Up To 3 Months. They may be a little big initially but your baby will very quickly grow into them, and its not such a waste of money.

Oh, I just realised I hadnt answered your question. I wouldnt bother with 'outfits' for newborns either, they're sick down themselves far too often for that kind of thing.

As for how many, depends how often you want to put a wash on really? Id say maybe 10-15 sleepsuits and vests.

I had a very sicky newborn!

To be honest, we had things in newborn, that were far too big for DD, so DH went to next and bought a set of 5 sleepsuits in first size.

Although the clothes go by weight, it also depends on the size of your baby. DD is very chunky of thigh and arms, but only has little legs so while she is 5.5 months at the moment, her leggings are 0-3 months and her tops/dresses are 3-6 months.

Agree with pp it really depends how often you want to do laundry! 10 is a good number maybe?

DC1 was 7 lb at birth and lost loads of weight in the frost week so was in newborn clothes for at least 4 weeks in the end. 0-3 month was far too big for ages. Some shops do a 0-1 month size which is really useful, maybe make some of your new purchases that size?

Oh agree with PP about the size of your baby. My son was on the 95th centile, so newborn clothes fit him for maybe 2 weeks.

Id go by how big your baby is projected to be (although that can be hit and miss). If you're unsure maybe get a selection of sizes.

I would consider buying newborn, so many 0-3 months sleepsuits swamped my baby she was 6lb 4oz. Every baby is different! Sainsbury's are good for sleepsuits so would recommend them.

I think my baby had:
X 10 0-3 months sleepsuits
X 4 Newborn sleepsuits
X 4 Upto 10 or 12 pounds

People will likely buy you things as well so worth considering. I got a few things from eBay as well but I'm not sure how that's working at the moment.

Also with the hot weather approaching it's likely your baby will be in a vest a lot of the time so it's good you've got plenty of them.

My baby was 9lb7 😫🤪

Lostvoiced · 29/05/2020 13:38

I can't remember what I bought but it didn't feel like enough when little man turned up.

If you dont wanna waste money people tend to bundle their old newborn clothes on Ebay for cheap. I got one of those and washed it all and it did us really well for the initial stage.

A good estimate to how big your baby will be is how big you and your siblings were and your OH and his siblings and wider family. No-one in our family has produced a baby smaller than 7 and half pounds and most are over 8lbs for a few generations. So I only bought 0-3 months which was fine. His was 8 12. Obviously if smaller babies run in your families its worth buying smaller sizes.

Thank you, everybody! I will get some more sleep suits to round it up to 10. 😊
