potty training - leaking into pants every time

We've been potty training my 2 year old since before lockdown (early March). At first he got it, no leaks on day 4. Went to nursery on day 6 and regressed but again, back to no accidents day 9. However - he now leaks a little bit of wee into his pants every. single. time. he needs a wee. He has basically stopped telling us he needs a wee half the time. We've tried explaining again about when he needs to sit on the potty, we've got books etc for him to read. We now sit him on the potty before we leave the house and before he has a nap etc and he always does a wee. We tried sticker charts, rewards, etc - no success on the leaks.

Should we be just sitting him on the potty every few hours (feels like he isn't learning)? Or should we wait for him to tell us (which he doesn't do) or wait to spot the leak and then sit him on potty (cue huge distress)? How do we break this cycle?? I am now not washing nappies all the time, but I am fed up of washing 5 pairs of pants and trousers every day.

I don't think going back to nappies is the right idea, but I am going slightly mad. Please help!

Give these a try. They’ll catch little leaks. I’d keep reminding him to go, if you have to.

I'm also potty training at the minute (well DS is), I found he's really reluctant to tell me he needs a wee, but if I keep the potty in the room he prefers to just go when he needs to.
