Best bottle from birth

I am due my 2nd dc in July and will be formula feeding from birth. This wasn't my original plan and so I am very unprepared!

Please can anyone reccommend a type of bottle best for newborn babies onwards? In terms of reducing/preventing colic and reflux, comfort, babies' preference, etc?

Thanks in advance! Flowers

Also i am planning on Cow and Gate, is this a good formula for newbies?

I used tommee tippee first time and Mam bottles this time. Both were decent, both babies had mild colic and reflux 😅 I tried dr browns and didn’t find them any better. We used aptimil - mainly because it’s readily available almost everywhere but I think cow and gate is too. Just personal preference. Xx

NUK are good if you can get them. Those little packs of ready mixed formula with disposable tears are good for the first couple of days so you don't have to think - and they use NUK style tests mostly. I used C&G - they're much of a muchness, I think.

Hi!

I use Avent Anti Colic Bottles, and SMA ready mixed formula. I like the bottles as they have a little green fixture in them that sort of channels the bubbles of air away from the teat.

I know a lot of people say SMA isnt great as it seems to be hard on their babies tummies, but ive never had an issue.

Are you all set up for sterilising?

TinySleepThief · 12/05/2020 11:47

MAM bottles. You can sterilise them in the microwave its amazing especially if you are out and about or at someone elses house.

You can also get ready made formula which was a life changer in the early days.

Also all baby formula has to have certain ingredients in it by law (in the UK), so theirs not much difference in any of them I dont think

We were told by midwives and the GP to avoid cow and gate. We use SMA.
Mainly use tommee tippee bottles and we're quite happy with them. Not so keen on the Nuby bottles as it's really difficult to see the measurements on the bottles.

Dd1 NUK bottles. Got the same for dd2 (although 90% breast feeding) and she totally rejected them and liked MAM bottles instead. Totally just down to the individual baby.

Use C&G, and agree that the little instabottles are brilliant to begin with.
Am intrigued to know why pp’s GP and HV warned against C&G, given how strictly regulated the industry is, and that the milks are all broadly the same?

Me too it seems odd to tell you to avoid cow and gate when all formula is basically the same. The hospital only had cow and gate as an option when I gave birth so if we didn't use that my son wouldn't have eaten.

Thanks so much for all the replies and helpful advice!

Yes i am set up for sterilising i have the tommy tippee tubs and milton solution. Im not sure if every bottle type can be water sterilised though?

I re-discovered a little newborn mams bottle i got in a bounty pack with my first dc so that will come in handy im sure

Im pretty sure they can. I got a steam steriliser. Its super easy, just wash the things then load them in the machine and press a button. Takes about 10mins.

I use mam bottles for expressed milk occasionally and they seem to work well for my baby.
