Tandem pram - almost 3 years apart

DC2 is due in a few months’ time, God willing, and will be 2 years 9 months younger than DC1. I’ve been looking into tandem prams and am quite confused; the only thing that seems clear is that they are a pricey investment!

Questions: when is DC1 likely to stop needing a pram at all? Maybe this is shorter-term than I think.

Is DC1 likely to feel uncomfortable in the teeny seats of tandem prams? She currently has the very roomy Mamas and Papas Armadillo.

And generally, how important is it to make the right choice here? Or do I just basically need a contraption that will get them from A to B and shouldn’t overthink it?

Mine are 3 years and 3 months apart and I never had a tandem but DC1 was a good walker.

You could always get a buggy board and a wrap that you could put DC2 in if DC2 really needs the buggy.

I'll have roughly the same age gap later this year. I'm not getting a tandem and we'll just use a buggy & sling or carry cot & buggy board combo depending on what we're doing.

Have you looked second hand? There's always loads on Facebook marketplace.

I have 18mth between mine and got a tandem which I rarely used. Dc2 as newborn was mostly in sling/carrier with dc1 in original single buggy. By time Dc2 was getting bigger and it was harder to wear and push while out and about with two Dc1 was preferring to walk.
By around 2.5 dc1 used a buggy board and we only took tandem on longer days out by 2yr10 at least the tandem was put away and single back out with a buggy board if needed, never needed tandem since (I don't drive)

I have the same age gap and I have and out n about nipper double which I love. DC2 is now 12 months and I still use it all the time. Personally I think you’ll get more use out of a side by side double than a tandem.

Whether you need one really depends on the eldest. DC1 is super lazy and still now at nearly 4 prefers the buggy. He hated a buggy board. I do make him walk some of the time but I would still struggle without the double. I know other people who have barely used a buggy since their child was 18 months.

I'm due in August and will have a 3 year gap. DS isn't good at walking and I think I will get a buggy pod as it will go on my pram/pushchair and buggy, both are very sturdy.
