Reflux but not all the time?

Is this possible? My 10 week old has started spitting up more after each feed, arching his back and “stretching out”, stopping mid feed to cry, and only calms when held straight in front of me stretched out and walked around. The problem I have is that the GP has suggested reflux would be constant and not intermittent. Sometimes baby will feed with no problems, no spit up, squirming etc. Instead the GP said he wanted to see baby to rule out plyoric stenosis even though my baby has only properly vomited once or twice in his little life! The spit up just rolls out when he burps, and he gets hiccups a lot after feeds.

What could it be?

As I understand it, reflux is more of a symptom rather than a diagnosis. Has the GP talked to you about CMPA or Tongue Tie?

Nope, all he mentioned whilst going through his “books” was pyloric stenosis, the worst case bloody scenario! I think it’s a bit extreme! I’m hesitant to go back to him.

I’d read up on tongue tie and Cow’s Milk Protein Allergy as both can cause reflux like symptoms.

You don’t say how you are feeding but if you are BFing, have a read of this on Kellymom. If you are ffing, have you tried swapping brands or switching to a comfort formula?

I wouldn’t worry about the GP at all, at least they are listening and not dismissing your concerns Smile

Sounds more like a wind problem.
