4 month sleep regression

Hi there so I think we are currently going through the 4 month sleep regression. My DS is 5.5 months and for the past 4 weeks has been waking up anywhere from 6 to 10 times a night. He will take 1 bottle during the night but the other time he just seems unable to settle and even bringing him into the bed doesn't help. I either have to turn him on his side and wiggle his bottom a little or rock him back to sleep , it is exhausting.

How long did the sleep regression last for everyone else ? I'm hoping it passes soon.

Hello OP, we have had a few nights like that and they are not fun. I hope you managed to get a nap or two during the day, it helped me.

Our one was only occasional so cannot say but the smart books say it can be anything between 2-4 weeks (sorry).

If it helps my LO slept on his tummy since the day he was born (he hated back sleeping and he still mostly settles on his tummy and then rolls onto his back when at night). He also got a dummy at 2m as he was unsoothable in the evening, he was screaming like all hell was loose and not hungry or anything. I then learned it was him being overtired (he is 6m now and I am careful not to get to that stage when possible). The dummy plus tummy sleeping and back patting helped us.

Yes I have been able to go back to bed for a while in the mornings before DP goes to work thankfully but I also have DD 8 so that's not always possible !
Hopefully I am in the last week of it so as it's coming up to 4 weeks now !

Strange though my DS was fine sleeping on his back and slept well until over 3 weeks ago and now he constantly wakes when he rolls onto his back ! He just seems so unsettled all night and I am worried he's not getting good quality sleep either !

Our 4 month sleep regression lasted exactly one month and it was gradual . The worst of it lasted about 2 weeks . After that he started waking twice a night and then slowly once a night . Then he started sleeping through the night but never consistently until about 9 months old .

Hi MichelleOR84 thanks for sharing your experience I'm currently coming up to the end of the 4th week but he is still consistently waking anywhere from 6 to 8 times per night unfortunately ...he used to be able to self settle at bed but.not for naps but now I seem to have to rock him to get him to sleep for both naps and bed which I'm afraid is creating a bad habit he just cries in the cot and doesn't stop I tried to leave him cry once bit it went on for an hour and he just got more and more upset so that will never work ...at a loss now really and exhausted

@Loufer don’t worry , I rocked mine to sleep too . And nursed him to sleep . I was so certain I had screwed up but around 10-12 months he learnt to self settle and now goes to sleep completely awake in his crib for naps and at night . And knows to self settle during the night too .

Embrace this time because before you know it your little one might not ever wanna fall asleep in your arms again 🥺 ( mine won’t anymore 😢)
