Hello all
You may think I am over reacting but I would like some advice!
The event happened Friday around 4ish so over a good 40 hours...
I have this necklace from a holiday in Jamaica which has beads and small shells on it. My 19 months old loves it and likes to wear it around the house. Friday I noticed she was starting to chew on it but stupidly thought nothing of it. Around 4pm she wanted it off so I took it off and noticed one of the shells was cracked. I squeezed it to break it off as I didn’t want it falling off and her getting it and swallowing it. It broke it fragments and I noticed they were quite sharp. I put them in the bin. A few minutes later she started rubbing at her stomach and grimacing. I had a look and under her top we’re some bits of shell which were digging in. I promptly wiped them away and put in some Sudocream. I assumed they were from the shell I broke off. I had a look at the necklace e and then realised 2 shells were missing. I can account for one shell But not 2!!! I have no idea if the other shell was there or not or can’t remember if it broke off previously. I am
Now worried she bit it off and swallowed it and as the fragments were sharp On the other one I’m worried it’s got caught in her stomach or intestine. She has been fine in herself, no sickness, 2 dirty nappies and Usually anything she puts in her mouth which isnt food she spits out! I asked my husband his opinion and he says it’s fine. My friend is a nurse and she said it’s fine also as the body would cover it in mucus so it wouldnt stick yet everything on internet talks about ‘sharp foreign bodies’ swallowed by children. I would have called 111 but a) I don’t even though if she swallowed anything and wouldn’t want to waste anyone’s time and b) in the current climate, I don’t want to take her to hospital and put her at risk unecessarily. I feel so stupid letting her ha s the necklace in the first place.
How would I know if she’s swallowed anything and it’s causing issues internally? I’m scared it’s dug in somewhere and she’s bleeding internally 🤦🏼♀️ Xx
