Feel so guilty but my heart sinks when my Dd wants to play role play eg hospitals, Babies etc! Don't mind board games, crafting, drawing etc but can't bear it when I hear 'pretend you.....' etc !! Am I a terrible mum ?? She is an only child of 8 and it's just me and her.

Nope. My 2 year old likes to play peter rabbit... I have to hop around the garden....

More often than not mummy needs to feed the baby or tidy up. I feel awful but it's such hard work... as a child I loved playing pretend but I just cant do it now unless I am really in the mood

I've always hated that kind of play. You are not alone!

This is me. I’m so rubbish at playing! I’m good at running around, I’m good at thinking of activities & making/setting them up (ex teacher) but imaginary play such as role play, small world etc, I’m awful at it. I really do not enjoy it. I did a teaching placement in early years once and I take my hats off to those working in nurseries & reception! It’s just not for me.. don’t beat yourself up, it doesn’t make you a bad parent. We are all different! But equally, as a parent you just have to grin & bear these things! I try my best! My DD is 3, I’ve got years of it left.. your 8 year old will be grown out of role play soon enough. You might even be sad when she does 😊
