CMPI Aptamil Pepti 1 - Baby Always Hungry

Hi, i'm just looking for some advice re. feeding my son with his CMPI.

He's currently 3 weeks old and after a difficult first 2 weeks unable to keep anything down/gain weight he was diagnosed with CMPI and put on Aptamil Pepti 1 formula. Within 24hrs he was a completely different baby, no more vomiting/diarrhea and was back above his birth weight and has continued to gain and be happy since.

I'm finding, however, that with this new formula he is ALWAYS hungry. As per the guidelines on the tin he's currently having 4oz per feed and seems relatively satisfied after he finishes the whole bottle and falls asleep. He's waking like clock work every 2 hours on the dot though wanting more milk and acting like he's starving. At this rate he's having 12 x 4oz feeds a day (as opposed to the recommended six on the tin) which works out to be 48oz a day and i'm worried i'm overfeeding him as a result 😬

Does anyone have any experience with Apatamil Pepti 1 (or any other CMPI formula which are all quite thin) and have any tips or advice? I've read a few posts where people have added thickeners such as carabel - has anyone tried this and found it worked?

Any advice is appreciated at this point! :)

Hey. My 9 week old is on neocate for cows milk allergy and is having 5oz every 3 hours and has done for around 5 weeks. We got a bollocking off our paediatrician as he said we were over feeding him so we cut him down to 4oz and tried to get down to 3oz but baby wasnt having any of it. I spoke to my health visitor who said it's a load of rubbish and feed baby what he wants so we are back up to 5oz. The instructions on the tin are just recommendations only and I can guarantee your little one hasn't read it.

All babies are so much different. Its similar to BMI in adults. Only weight and height taking in to consideration. My baby was born 6lbs and on 4ish oz and my best friends little boy was born 10lb and on 9oz honest to god he was a big baby.

Listen to your baby and carry on doing what I imagine is a cracking job.

Just feed him what he wants. He’s coming up to a growth spurt & will probably level out afterwards, a thickener will probably upset his stomach. Those guidelines are one size fits all so see how he is in a few weeks.

My little girl was on pepti 1 and is now on pepti 2 from what I've noticed they just have fits of not eating much and then not wanting to stop eating just like other feeding types. Also if hes anything like my dd after spending the first few weeks of life hungry and vomiting and in pain maybe hes making up for it and enjoying it! Smile if his weight is ok and hes happy just give him what he wants. We did start putting baby rice in her last evening bottle to bulk it out and reduce night waking when she was a bit older but watch for constipation.
