Right - is your dolmio jar ready?

Get about a teaspoonful of lanolin (that will be oodles).

Put a squirt of shampoo in your jar, the lanolin, and pour on some boiling water - mix it VERY vigorously so that it all melts and mixes together and goes creamy coloured (NOT blobby).

Pour it into some cold water and fiddle about until it is approx 30C (it should feel slightly cooler than hand temp, but not cold cold). You need enough water to properly cover the wrap.

Put it in, squeeze the mixture through the wrap a few times and leave it to soak. Give it a swirl as you pass every so often until you go to bed.

Leave it overnight, and then hang to dry in the morning - you can bung it round the machine on a SLOW spin cycle to make it dry quicker. (Put it in a pillow case to protect the wrap, but the case will need a wash afterwards unless you want it lanolinified)

ok - couldnt find the dolmio jar for beer bottles so settled on a plastic lidded mellow birds jar - did as you said - it fizzed when i shook it so i manged a nice little squald but thats ok - anyway all done and soaking as we speak!! Seems straight forward - hands feel all nice and soft but i have to conclude that lanolin smells of horse shit.

pmsl @ "little scald but that's ok"

I have gotten used to the smell of lanolin now and quite like it. My eczema on the other hand (or on both hands actually) does not! I can't be arsed to wear gloves though

nappyzone · 16/09/2007 20:37

Yes...my proper lanolin arrived, and it smells soooo much worse than lanisoh. There i was thinking it didnt matter if i'd used up all my lanisoh on wraps cos i could just use the other lanolin on my nipples when bubs arrived-really dont fancy walking around smelling like that though!

Flamesparrow · 17/09/2007 12:57

lol @ spewing from lanolin nipples!!

How'd it go Zone?

nappyzone · 17/09/2007 13:50

he did not spew again and my wrap is on the line outside feeling like it wont be dry for tonight.... with no wool and my minkis in the wash i will have to come up with some super combo involving a pul wrap - still i got a freebe nature babiess and loveable so it will give me a chance to test it. . my sink still smells of horse shit

i use a bucket when i do mine (i have 4) and on the tub it says to us 40 ml, is that to much? also didnt realise you could wash them in shampoo thought it had to be olive soap.

nappyzone · 17/09/2007 18:06

i used the ensuite sink and i could smell it all night - i even closed the door- must use a bucket next time. i never did any measuring i literally doloped a tea spoon in so guerss thats about 20ml and filled the jar so no science needed. baby shampoo was used too and for washing it. feels

cont...... feels greasy feeling so think that means it worked but still a toot damp to use

OP posts:
Flamesparrow · 17/09/2007 19:46

Yup, greasy is right (sticky means you got a bit carried away but that it'll work extra well )

I tend to guess with the amounts - I do a couple of dollops for more wraps...

nappyzone · 17/09/2007 22:18

well my washer is in pieces tonight so so am i - nursery on wed and i have about 7 pockets left - am panicking a bit - wool still a toot damp too so due to washer crisis i have had to resort to the emergency sposie thats bee rolling round my car for a million years! Noot a happy nappy bunny! Tomorow it will be bamboo squares and hopefully wool wrap to save emf or nursery!

Dh reassuring me it maybe fixed by tomorow night but am not convinced!

you can add a few drops of essential oil to the lanolin soup for a nicer aroma!
