Baby gasps and chokes on saliva

I’m at my witts end with worry now.
It’s happened since birth I thought she might grow out of it, but my baby keep doing a strange swallowing, stops breathing then high pitch gasp then hysterically screams and cries.

It’s happening a lot now she’s teething and a lot more dribbly but she’s always done it. It scares the absolute life out of me every time as she is gasping then is hysterical screaming. She chokes on her bottle sometimes to. It’s almost like she forgets to breath.

I spoke to the doctor and they said it might be reflux or but because she was a early baby by c section so could be mucus but she isn’t mucusy anymore.

Should I take her to see a doctor again or does this sound like a normal baby?

It sounds like how my son was. He was 5 weeks premature. Turned out it was reflux and got really painful for him. He too used to choke when he regurgitated, sometimes so much so that he struggled to breathe. Its very scary. I'd phone docs again. He's on gaviscon now, a low dose at first and it definitely helped with pain. He still regurgitates sometimes but very rarely chokes on it.

Mine does this too! Got to the point I was paranoid he was having seizures, as he also stiffens his body, stops breathing then screams. I spoke to the HV who doesn't think it's anything to worry about. He's done it since he was born and I had a strong letdown and oversupply which triggered reflux. My GP wouldn't give me anything for the reflux but it might be worth speaking to yours or your HV and see what they suggest. Hope you get it sorted, it is terrifying and horrible when they do it Sad

Thank you both, sounds exactly like Mabel @ChokkaBlock with the stiffening of the body too!

Maybe it is reflux, she’s not a sucky baby by any means so I wonder if it’s silent reflux. I’ll phone the GP and see if there’s anything we can give her.
