Combination feeding

I have been breastfeeding for 4 weeks and giving my Daughter a bottle of formula once a week when struggling/tired.

I am considering giving a bottle before bed as the few times I've done this she has slept really well after, and it also allows her Dad to spend a bit of time with her.

Has anyone done this, and also would one bottle a night affect my milk supply massively?

I've done it since birth with no supply issues. My only issue is the longer baby sleeps, I now sometimes get engorged.

It helped my sanity and means baby takes a bottle too x

Oh amazing!!

Glad to hear it didn't affect supply.

Will start doing it over the next few weeks when I'm knackered! Sleep is essential!

Thanks

Sleep is essential! I'm sure you probably will but I would sometimes go to bed before baby and my husband would do that feed/feeds after so I got a good chunk of sleep at the beginning of the night. Made it worth it 😊

Good Luck- feeding is a tricky thing! X

I agree with bookish! My baby boy is 3 weeks old and I’ve been giving him formula over the night (2 bottles) mainly at night because he sleeps longer stretches on formula. My supply has been great still only thing is in the morning if you don’t pump within the hour you’ll start feeling uncomfortable up top

Hmmmmm I could do with a sleep, this sounds like a good idea. Do you think baby will take bottle okay at 8 weeks?

mastertomsmum · 28/04/2020 17:21

It's a great thing for a Dad to do at bedtime. Also, no matter what anyone says for us a bottle for the last feed definitely helped with sleeping through. All the science says this is wrong but every health visitor Ive ever met says this works and it did for us

We get a good stretch but not through the night, however I BF the rest of the time.

I combination fed from birth due to latch issues and unwell me from birth. i used to express and give mainly formula, now its 1 or 2 formula bottles a day.

It has worked for us - 13 weeks now x

Gave baby a bottle of formula tonight and she's just woken up after 4.5 hours. I'm lucky to get 2/3 when solely breastfeeding.

I think I might slowly start introducing it so eventually she is having one a night.

@Rubyroost definitely worth a go. Hope baby takes it for you :).

Thanks for advice everyone x
