Wow. Can't believe it's me starting this thread. Eyelash, where are you? Get any sleep last night?

Ooh forgot to say - we got our first smile yesterday (for Daddy)! But not very many today - too grumpy and tired (both DD and I).

beansprout · 15/11/2004 12:17

Tiredness? Anxiety? Lack of routine? Yep, I'm in the right place then...
I'm not sure what coping looks like either. I know I cry when dp shuts the door to go to work most mornings, and I feel desperate when Bean is screaming in the small hours (agin) and hey, for good measure, I'm crying now but I do seem to be doing this (sort of).

As for books, I am trying to go by Baby Whisperer stuff but at the moment that's more "feed him, play for a bit, hope he goes to sleep". Trying to get Bean to sleep anytime before 1am is very hard at the moment, so I think that would put GF tyoe schedules out of the question, even if I wanted to follow them!!

And it's my birthday today... let's say it's a "low key" one this year...

florenceuk · 15/11/2004 12:39

Happy Birthday Beansprout! Lots of hugs - and yes, my DD is screaming as I type...

Bean A BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY you deserve something really nice .... like a beautiful baby!! Awww but you already have one.

thanks everyone for the advice, I really really want to continue breast feeding and WILL dammit. I will start expressing and see if that helps, at the moment they feel empty and DD is due a feed very soon, she turns into a wild thing at my breast though when she is finished and nothing seems to come out

am actually going to GP this afternoon as I think an infection has manifested down there - nice!! also hemmoroids seem to be hanging around far to long. Want GP to check DD for the vommiting also.

Toots don't talk to me about feeling like a haggard wreck, my face hasn't seen a speck of make-up and skin is sooo dry.

Hope to keep logging on once a day to keep up with everyone.

All the best with the crying, it sure is hard but hang in there cause I think it's only gonna get better......right!!!

Distracted · 15/11/2004 15:59

Happy Birthday bean - will your dp cook you a nice meal or something tonight if you can't get out? Can you get a baby sitter and get out to celebrate some time soon? You deserve a break. I've just booked a night in a hotel for December for dp and me - booked the most expensive room with a jacuzzi bath as rather than sight seeing mine and my dh's dream right now is to be able to just be decadent and sit in a bath for hours! My mother is going to have both children overnight and for the best part of the 2 days, although we're not going too far away. I really can't wait, although I know that 1 night will just whizz by.

Turtle - you're not paranoid, just going through the usual worries of motherhood. Newborns are so delicate that everything does alarm you and it's hard to know what's normal. I don't think I'm quite so bad second time around, although I was for the first 2-3 weeks and we've only just got ds into his own room now at 5 weeks as I was too worried before about being able to hear if he was choking or breathing abnormally before (after having a bad cold at 2 weeks old). We had originally planned for him to go into his own room from about 1-2 weeks. Hope your trip to the doctors is reassuring. As for haemorrhoids, I know what you mean - I had them mildly first time and they just disappeared, this time there's no sign of them going

Florence - how lovely to have the first smile I forget how old your dd is? I had 3 lovely smiles in a row last Monday (ds was just over 4 weeks then), which was fantastic as we had been having a really hard day up until then. However, I've not had one since . He's a bit young though I suppose and they'll become more frequent when he really gets going.

I lose track of how old everyone's baby is and who has other children or not. At some point we should collate together the info on who has what and maybe start a new thread with that at the start of it - what do you think?

Bellie · 15/11/2004 16:52

Happy Birthday Bean - hope you manage to get some 'you' time today to relax - I know it is hard though as they are so demanding! But wouldn't have it any other way.
I am expressing Turtle and topping up with formula, but seem to have loads of milk (leaking everywhere in the morning as don't express during the night). This way I know what the little monkey is taking as for her first 6 days she didn't take anything.

As an aside - should I be worried that on day 16 my little monkey is still slightly down on her birth weight?? Hvisitor says that it is fine, but neurotic mum here is slightly worried??

eyelash · 15/11/2004 17:38

hi all - I have not managed to log on for ages as life is hectic with 3. Seems everybody is finding it tough at the moment.

As for manuels - I am following the happiest baby on the block at the moment and it is at least working some of the time.

And it is the 6 week milestone for us tomorrow - apart from horrendous baby acne, baby is gorgeous and smiling for england.

Toots · 15/11/2004 17:48

bellie - you're doing great. dd2 didn't get back to birth weight til nearly 4 weeks.

geogteach · 15/11/2004 19:14

Happy birthday beansprout, hope you've got lots of cake. I seem to have managed to cut back on the choclate, but have replaced it with mince pies!
Routines - well i'm not much cop at them myself so i'll not bother with the baby. The first 2 never went in the moses basket so i'm lucly that this one at least goes to bed in it but after the first night feed he is usually in with us.
I have now driven the car just can't get the children and the buggy in and out by myself!

Turtle35 · 15/11/2004 20:50

Does anyone else now have THREE tummies??? After having one very large one, I have now reduced to three smaller ones have a feeling it's going to take some serious exercise before I get rid of this baby fat.

Well Dr says I do have infection, heamorroids are hiddeous and now have scrip for them too, and DD has a very minor case of thrush on her tongue so she too is on prescription drugs. poor little mite, mind you she doesn't seem to mind it much.

Bean hope you are having a nice relaxing evening?

geogteach · 15/11/2004 21:10

Turtle I hink we might be twins - I definately have the 3 tummies (at least!?), and the piles and DS has medication for thrush. Oh the joys of being a new parent!

beansprout · 15/11/2004 22:58

Soooo fab that this thread is lively at the moment. Thanks for the birthday wishes but have spent the evening with a screaming Bean. Dp did cook a lovely meal... but we ate separately.. and then the same with a rather lush chocolately dessert. He has taken Bean out for a walk which often works (well, for a while anyway). Have not had a moment to ourselves yet Can see dp ending up in the other bedroom again while I stay up with the Bean. Ho hum...

Hope everyone with piles etc feels better soon. My belly is just weird - darker than the rest of me - anyone else have this? Like some sort of fake leather belly... mmm, nice. Was happy to read that after a c-section I can't exercise for 4-6 weeks. Frankly, suits me fine at the moment. Those days of running round the park are OVER!

Bibiboo · 16/11/2004 08:35

Wow, we all seem to be the same person at the moment ... big hugs to all of you who are feeling low/confused/frazzled etc etc

Apart from the piles, I could be any one of you -a saggy tummy like the skin on a rice pudding, very little sleep, no sign of a routine emerging anytime soon, tears at bedtime, lunchtime, in fact any time of the day, mad worries about mad things happening to baby, but also loving every minute of being a mum. Will the craziness end?

As for books, I'm dipping in and out of "Kid Wrangling" by Kaz Cooke (after finding her pregnancy book amusing, reassuring and written by a normal person rather than an 'expert'). It's not a baby manual as such, just a reference book written by a normal person for otther normal people as opposed to super-mums.

Am going out today (yay!) so am off to begin the two hour long manouvre to get us ready ... wish me luck x

Toots · 16/11/2004 09:53

Bean - no fair, your birthday evening sounds really cr*p . Hope today brings something wonderful your way.

Sigh....the tummy. Mine was always a very flabby affair, which is good in a way - I don't want my old body back particularly!

On the subject of physical anomalies, anyone else....leaking a bit? Am going to have to get pelvic squeezing big style . Also have sore bit on my episiotomy. Not mega, but catchy when I wipe (I'm sorry - it's not like you asked). Enough to put me further off any hi jinks even if I was interested

Mel is 6 weeks today!!! She slept from 11.30 to 5.30!!! - woken up by her flipping sister who is on a tedious early thing at the moment. Am going to have a good long walk down to the baby clinic later. Hope she's put on a good chunk, she certainly feels heavier.

Lovely to hear from you all. It does give me a lift.

Hi everyone - sorry I haven´t posted for a while, just haven´t found the time.A friend came over for 4 days last Thursday because dh was away on a course. We had a lovely time and ds was the perfect baby - sleeping all the time. However yesterday when my friend was back in England and dh back at work he decided to scream all day from early morning to early evening, when I think he finally fell asleep through pure exhaustion.

DD was also fed up with him yesterday. She would start off stroking his head really gently and then suddenly whack him really hard.
I felt so guilty that I had so little time for dd yesterday that I decided to do some baking with her today. After we´d finished the kitchen looked like a bomb had hit it, so I don´t think we´ll be doing anymore baking for a while.

Sorry that everyone is feeling a bit down at the moment. I think it´s inevitable when we´re all exhausted.
I´m looking totally knackered at the moment, but am taking comfort from the fact that dh is looking even worse .

Sorry you had such a crap birthday Bean.
Toots - very envious of the 12-6 sleep.

Bellie · 16/11/2004 13:12

Hi all - having a reasonable day today - although we are going out so bound to change the minute we get to my friends house!

Sorry about the birthday bean but sounds like the chocolate thing was fab!

My tummy has definately turned into 3 and the one at the bottom is definately just a lump of lard that swings about when I walk - not sure how it is going to go at all. Dh says the only way to get rid of it is to do leg raises, but the sheet of exercises I got from the hospital physio said NEVER to do them! Does that mean I have to resign myself to having the lard forever??? Ho Hum........ off to start the hour to get ready to go out then....

Good to hear things are feeling OK rickman - I find it so hard to cope with 2, so 4 just seems impossible! Another bad night with DD who was awake from around 2am to 5.30 (I think) - first mammoth feed then lots of crying and thrashing about, and piles of snot. She is now peacefully sleeping - shame I can't get DS to nap today! Toots, a 6hr sleep??? Sounds like angel baby to me!

OK, maybe time to start a new thread???

beansprout · 16/11/2004 17:35

Hi everyone. Glad you are all here. It makes all the difference to me at the moment to know that out there, there's a bunch of us in exactly the same boat.
Ok today. Bean screamed until 1.30am but then slept until 5 and after a feed, until 10, so, there is a god... blessed be the birthday sleep.
I've also pretty much chucked the books out for now and am just going with what me and Bean need and I feel much less stressed as a result.

Toots - hurrah to sleep! Not leaking (is that because I had a sun roof deivery?) but please, when will this bleeding stop?!
Rickman - glad you are still with us. A big "sod off" to anyone trying to spy on you

Any takers for a meet up? Am going to start a thread in the other section (excited emoticon)

biglips · 12/12/2004 21:17
