Hi

Can anyone please offer any advice?

Ds is 2.5 and is spot on using the potty with nothing on his bum at all, goes everytime. He has been doing that for a few weeks but as soon as I put a pair of pants on him he goes in the pants. Have tried explaining that in "big boy" pants he needs to use the potty but doesnt seem to be working. He has chose some character pants which we have tried lightly saying you cant wee on noddy or lunar Jim etc.

I have been putting pull ups on him for playschool / mums and tots because he will just wee in pants dont know if thats not helping. I always said I wouldnt use them but dont want him constantly weeing everywhere bless him.

Dont want to be too pushy with it because he does really well bare bottomed, but really do think he is ready he will sometimes if he remembers ask to go when out or if I ask him will go.

Thanks for any advice

Wondering if he has trouble pulling them down to go so just doesnt bother now. Have tried practising that with him.

I'd be inclined to keep the pants on, keep him at home for a few days and let the accidents happen - as long as he doesn't get upset, the problem should calm down. I wouldn't put him in nappies for playgroup - agree that confusing for him. Good luck.

my ds is 3 in october and is exactly the same.I just couldnt understand why when he had pants on he wouldnt use the potty and didnt even seem to care when he was wet. Yet when he had no pants on he would inform me he was going to do a wee-would get the potty himself do a wee wee praise himself, he would even empty the potty down the toilet, pull the flush and wash his hands!!! I just couldnt understnad it and it really frustrated me. Any way iasked the hv and she gave me a good explanation that perhaps when he had nothing on because he is colder down there etc he might be able to feel the urge better i.e hes getting a stronger signal whereas when he is pants he is nice and warm etc and may not get a strong enough urge.Anyway we have decided to leave him pantless when he is home and the every few days try him with pants.
