9 month old choking on food

How small am I supposed to cut her food up? I’m still having to chop toast, egg, broccoli into inch sizes otherwise she chokes. Yes properly chokes - not gagging or coughing etc. Everything online says they can have toast fingers, chopped egg etc. She wolfs it all in a chokes. She is just turning 9 months and has 4 teeth.

Hi @zoidforth , my baby was exactly the same, and is now 17 months, and still struggles with some things! I spoke to my health visitor and she just said some babies take longer than others! How are they are baby food and purées?

@playingbytherules thanks for your reply :) Ah okay; will just continue to feed her very small pieces. The problem is with finger food, she will ram loads of bits in her mouth and then choke. My anxiety can't take it Grin I've had her out of the highchair to hit her back three times today! And it is actual choking. She loves mushed food so it's all good. She eats well and is on 99th percentile!

@zoidforth it's scary isn't it! I was exactly the same, and still am a bit!
My little boy still can't won't eat lumpy food off a spoon with out choking, he knows to chew finger food but just swallows anything on a spoon! Hopefully he will grow out of it.
That's great she eats well, have you tried the melty puff sticks? I found that really helped teach him to chew and it didn't cause me too much anxiety as I knew they melted if he tried to eat too much

Yes so scary! Ah yes that makes sense as he must think all spoon fed food can just go straight down! She used to chew well but recently, just wolfs I'd straight down. Ah great, I'll get some of those puffs for her!
