How much did you spend on your pram?

First time mum here and starting to research prams! We were looking at a travel system, but now wondering if it's easier to have a pram/carry cot and car seat separate so there's less faff with messing about every time you need to take the baby in the car.

Looked at Ickle Bubba stomp but some reviews seemed very negative...currently leaning towards the Bugaboo Bee but unsure if £700-£800 is an unnecessary amount of money to spend on a pram/carry cot only! Particularly when we're looking at having a Moses basket in the room anyway?

Any input welcome please Grin

I’ve had two bugaboos (4 dc’s) and I loved them. imo they are worth the money however I must admit I bought them for the “look”.
I did sell the second one for £200 once I’d stopped using it so that’s something to think about - just try to keep it clean and in good condition.

pinkazing · 18/04/2020 10:04

About £500 and if I had my time again, I’d have just gone for a baby jogger to start with as the pram/car seat was only necessary at the beginning and DS grew out of it all too quickly. Baby jogger city mini was then purchased and wish I’d had it from the beginning. Would have saved so much money and been so much easier

Just shy of £1000. That was for icandy peach travel system and the joie I level car seat and base thrown in with it.

Eye watering. But it's the only pram we'll need and they have a good resale value.

Had the peach jogger 8 year ago with dd1 and paid the same price and resold it for £400

£200 on a second hand bugaboo chameleon travel system with the adapters to use the maxi cosi pebble car seat. Being able to slot the car seat on to the pram is great when they fall asleep in the car, particularly for the first 6 months and means you don’t have to disturb them. After that it was a bit of a pain as it’s massive and comes in two parts and just used to be a bit of a faff when I wanted to go somewhere quickly. He also was out of the carry cot by 4 months (and had reflux so hated it anyway).
DS is 1 now and a couple of months ago we got a lightweight silver cross stroller and I love it, up and down with one push and much more compact and lightweight. We should have done it months ago.
We won’t have another but if I did I’d do the same again, buy a second hand travel system for the first 6 months then move to a lightweight stroller.
It depends on your lifestyle really though, we went to a lot of classes so we were in and out of the car a lot.

Another vote for the baby jogger city mini. Amazing pushchair. Would rather add money for that and buy a cheaper travel system for earlier on. Although I think now you can get a carrycot for it too so could just get that.

Anyway we didn't know about the city mini at the time so bought the babystyle oyster pushchair with seat and carrycot and a max cosi car seat plus the adaptors so it could fit on the pram.

It was much cheaper than the bugaboos and the carrycot did a good job until 6 months when you can move to the seat part and have them facing you for a bit and then city mini which is just brilliant to steer and lovely and comfy for dc.

nowaitaminute · 18/04/2020 11:45

1300 for the bugaboo donkey. It served me through two dc with a 2.5 yr difference so I used it as a single/ a double and a single with a buggy board. It was great when I was pregnant with no 2 as it has the side basket so no bending up and down with things!! I sold it after 6 years for 600.

Burgerandchipvan · 18/04/2020 14:24

About £700 including accessories. It's a lot but I'd say cost per use is actually fairly low - probably used it at least 5 days a week for 18 months and then 3 times a week since then. Big thing for me is the size of the basket for storage/shopping and a good foot muff & rain cover. We also have a cheap stroller (£50) for holidays which we don't mind getting battered!

mindutopia · 19/04/2020 16:27

I couldn’t even tell you the brand, but I think it was something from mothercare. Cost no more than £300 for pram, carrycot, and car seat. We then had a baby jogger summit x3 off road pushchair which we used from 1. That was very worth the money and it’s survived nearly 6 years of regular use now.

£500 for second hand egg pram travel system in mint condition - bargain
I will look after it and hopefully be able to sell it for a little bit

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 19/04/2020 16:40

Hauck travel system with car seat and pushchair £75.00 new from amazon.

GreasyFryUp · 19/04/2020 16:45

£60 for a second hand mclaren. Couldn't get excited about these prom systems.

mynameisntlouise · 19/04/2020 16:57

I spend about £450 (on offer from about £600 RRP) on a Cosatto travel system and I never intended to spend that much, but underestimated how much they cost.

If I were to do it again I'd buy a multi-stage car seat and just a from-birth pushchair.

In the early days, you're not meant to keep baby in the car seat for long anyway, post-birth, it's not great for you to be lugging the car seat on and off the chassis, and I feel the convenience of being able to have the car seat on the chassis is outweighed by these points. I bought a fold down pushchair for around £120 when my son was 10 months old as the travel system was getting a bit bulky anyway.

Bienentrinkwasser · 19/04/2020 17:04

£240 on a Out n About Nipper Sport and £90ish on the carrycot. Bought a separate car seat that never left the car. Mostly used a sling tbh but the pushchair was good for some off-road walks and runs. DS naps in it every day (19m) and we’ll use it when his younger sibling comes along in the autumn.

Ilovethekittehs · 19/04/2020 17:07

I bought a bugaboo chameleon 3, secondhand from Ebay (with all the extras, carrycot etc.) For £200.00 and it was perfect. First child too, I was able to buy ALL of my baby bits with just the money I had saved from not buying a new pram and I put the left overs in my sons savings account.

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 19/04/2020 17:08

Tbh if I had my time again I would just use a sling for the first six months and then get a decent pushchair and not bother with the pram stage at all. I would definitely recommend a sturdy 3 wheeler if you walk a lot. We got the Mothercare one for less than £200 and it was fab.

NutterPotter · 19/04/2020 17:08

Way less than some of these. It was from smyths and so simple to use can swap from car seat to carrycot/chasis quite easily with no adaptors needed. Xx

TeddyIsaHe · 19/04/2020 17:12

Nearly a grand. I must have been off my rocker. Used the pram for a year, then finally bought a second hand Bugaboo Bee from eBay for £200 and loved it.

Definitely look into second hand, mine was spotless. I would have just bought a new newborn insert.

user1493413286 · 19/04/2020 17:12

£900 for a bugaboo chameleon; currently using it for DC2 and it’s still in perfect condition. It was a lot of money but we also used it for daytime naps particularly once DD grew out of the Moses basket and it was the lightest buggy to be taking up and down the stairs to our flat. I bought any accessories second hand and plan to sell it on after we’ve finished with it

happymummy12345 · 19/04/2020 17:13

Think our silver cross pioneer was around £700. Plus the car seat and we wanted all the extras to match as well. So it was close to £1000 for the lot. Worth every penny in my opinion. Loved it

Purplequalitystreet · 19/04/2020 17:14

£600 for the cosatto wow pushchair, carrycot and car seat. Didn't think that was too bad and we've definitely got the use out of it

Rubyroost · 19/04/2020 17:14

250 quid for travel system from mothercare. I have no idea why people spend so much! I used my carrier mostly anyway and past 2 (prior to that didn't use much either) didn't use it as baby now walks. I've used it twice with my newborn, because I am using my carrier with him too.

00100001 · 19/04/2020 17:17

wouldn't actually bother getting one until your baby is here...

find a lay flat pram on marketplace for £30-£70 and a car seat (if you have car)

Then see how life goes to know which set up you need.

skankingpiglet · 19/04/2020 17:27

We had a second hand Mountain Buggy Swift. £110 for the buggy and a few accessories, plus I bought a new seat liner (£15 on offer) and second hand footmuff/sleeping bag (£40 ish I think). It did two DCs with some new tyres and wheel bearings between them as we live rurally, took it to numerous festivals and on holiday, and weren't kind to it. It did a huge number of miles and was certainly put through its paces! We sold it on recently for £45 plus another £30 for the footmuff 👍🏻 It was one of the best baby purchases we made.
It is definitely worth buying second hand, and with a bit of searching you can get some barely used models (some people seem to change pushchairs every few months).

RoomForMore · 19/04/2020 17:29

Same as PP, £250 for a mothercare travel system. It's on its third child now. I'm not fussed to sell it on after, I'll happily give it to a local mum&baby charity.

The plus side of it being cheap is my kids have all sicked/ pooped / snacked in it and it's never bothered me. I just give it a good scrub down every now and again. If I'd bought an expensive one then that would have caused me a lot of anxiety! Most of my friends have expensive ones though and they are beautiful!

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 19/04/2020 17:34

Dd1 I had several prams but the best was the baby jogger city mini. Wish I had bought it first.

Dd2 I got a bugaboo bee and it was perfect used it up until she no longer needed a pram and was nice as could keep her parent facing through the talkative toddler years! I used a carrier for first few months so didn't use the carry cot part but I'm sure it was a soft one that clipped in?
