How much did you spend on your pram?

First time mum here and starting to research prams! We were looking at a travel system, but now wondering if it's easier to have a pram/carry cot and car seat separate so there's less faff with messing about every time you need to take the baby in the car.

Looked at Ickle Bubba stomp but some reviews seemed very negative...currently leaning towards the Bugaboo Bee but unsure if £700-£800 is an unnecessary amount of money to spend on a pram/carry cot only! Particularly when we're looking at having a Moses basket in the room anyway?

Any input welcome please Grin

£300 for pushchair and carry cot. We didn’t have a car when DD was born and did a lot of walking and it was great! I saw on Instagram Mindy Kaling had the same brand so it can’t be that shabby xD

£250 second hand of icandy peach with all the accessories, it's got a few scuffs but works perfectly, folds down to fit into boot of car, can also be changed into a double if I have another child, would obviously need to buy the extras for that.

JamMakingWannaBe · 22/04/2020 21:17

As above:
What car / public transport / walking are you planning to do?
Do you live in a flat or house? (lots of stairs to entrance)
What's your storage space like?
Do you plan on having more DCs?
How tall are you / DP?
Does your car have isofix?
Do you have a preference for extended rear facing (ERF?)

If you can answer these we can assist further as at the moment you are getting a load of personal opinion that might not suit your/ your DPs lifestyle.

You do not need to spend £700!

I bought a small mammas and papas pram which was a multi way style - brand new design at the time 15 years ago and it was £700 then

In hindsight wish I’d gone for a cheapy as for rif for a buggy shortly after 6-7 months

Sunshine1239 · 22/04/2020 21:23

Got rid for a biggy

Sunshine1239 · 22/04/2020 21:23

Buggy 🙈

Craiglang · 22/04/2020 21:24

£170ish. Was an end of line/floor model, included a new (not floor model) carseat, and it lasted 8 years/3 kids. My youngest is 3 and I'm gutted to be passing it on, it's done us a good service. It was a practical purchase, the idea of spending £1k+ on a buggy seems crazy to me, even though we could afford to.

Megan2018 · 22/04/2020 21:27

I have the iCandy All Terrain, my parents bought it, it was about £1100 including the Duo Pod liner.
We have the Nuna Pipa Lite car seat which was £250. I’m really pleased with it though, it’s doing all we wanted 7 months in Smile

Hannah9176 · 23/04/2020 01:57

Same as @MamaFrey29 we have the icandy cerium. Expensive but bought by my mum who insisted. I love it but we wouldn't have spent that much if we were buying it ourselves. Another £130 on a joie car seat & base which also attaches to the pram (although DD hates the car seat). Will be another £300 to get the add on to turn the pram into a double when the new baby arrives at Christmas!

MichelleOR84 · 25/04/2020 16:44

We spent £1000 because we could afford it and it’s something we knew we would use everyday and could sell after .

There is nothing wrong with second hand and definitely don’t feel like you have to spend that much money .

I hate when people say “ I don’t understand why you would spend that much “ . We all spend our money differently, we all have different incomes and finances and we spend our money where we feel it’s worth it .

Thesearmsofmine · 25/04/2020 16:49

£100 on a second hand travel system that I used for all 3dc. It did the job perfectly and because it wasn’t expensive I wasn’t precious about it!

Thesearmsofmine · 25/04/2020 16:51

Just to add to my pp I did buy a new car seat and made sure it wasn’t a good one. I can never understand people spending ££££ on a pram or cot or whatever ten use a cheap basic car seat.

BackseatKnitter · 25/04/2020 16:56

£300 on a Mothercare Travel system. Didn’t care about appearances or having fashionable brands so didn’t feel the need to spend more. DD was out of it and ready for a pushchair before she was one and the pushchair is much more practical (lighter, fold smaller) than prams so wouldn’t have used a pram any longer than that.

RainbowMum11 · 02/05/2020 02:08

Uppababy Vista all the way - the pram but was suitable for overnight so we didn't need a Moses basket too, it came with all the attachments and the shopping basket was immense!! Used ours for nearly 4 years then passed it down to nephew and they love it too. It's sturdy but really easy enough to steer with one hand.
Everyone I know who has had one (including with the rumble seat or buggy board etc, has also really loved it.

grey12 · 02/05/2020 02:34

If I was having baby 1 again I would just get the a really good travel buggy, like Yoyo babyzen.

We had an expensive, big Mamas Papas Armadillo and it's great!! We lived at the time in the middle east, suuuuper hot. This buggy was brilliant for that.

Living in London now, you have public transsport, small car boot, travel to see family.... it's easier to have something nice and compact. Unless you have any pressing needs (like jogging!!)

MinkowskisButterfly · 02/05/2020 03:05

£250 on a travel system (graco evo) it was reduced in mothercare as the particular colour was being phased out. The carrycot and car seat were great and then the buggy seat bit was also brilliant, after dd2 turned 1 we didn't have a car anymore so used the buggy until she was 3.5. It was a lovely aystem, light and easy to maneuvere. Donated it to the local hospice charity shop when we finished with it.

PrimeroseHillAnnie · 02/05/2020 03:12

Gosh, what is a travel system ? . I bought good quality second hand. Saved a small fortune. Used it for all my three kids. Went in the skip when I’d finished with it.

MsSquiz · 02/05/2020 03:28

We have a Bugaboo Fox for 19 week old DD, bought new and have definitely gotten good use out of it. We used the bassinet part daily for her to nap in during the day from birth until the start of Lockdown (when napping on me became her new favourite thing!) and for her to sleep in each evening downstairs with us until last week when we changed it to the pushchair seat. We have also used it every day as a pram/pushchair since she was a week old - going out for a daily walk, going round to family, out into town and baby classes (pre lockdown)

We got the Bugaboo as my SIL had the donkey for her twins and I liked the quality, how easy it is to use/fold away and I was already used to using it. Plus they were using theirs until around 2.5 years old, so the staying power seems decent

Alderaan · 02/05/2020 11:12

£80 second hand. Does exactly the same job as a new one and has plenty of life left in it. I couldn't justify spending hundreds of pounds on one.

Almost everything we have for him is secondhand.

Akasia · 02/05/2020 11:18

£150 for a 2nd hand Uppababy Vista with all accessories. It was in great condition and a massive saving vs. The John Lewis one in the shop £1000 without any accessories.

I would always recommend to have a look first on ebay, facebook market once you decide what you want to buy.

HarrietM87 · 02/05/2020 16:05

We got a new bugaboo bee for around £650 I think and it’s fantastic - still going strong 2 years later and will use for our second child. If I’d known how sturdy they are I’d have bought second hand for sure. They hold their value well so I plan to sell it on after the next baby. Looks like you can get around £200 for them so tbh £450 for 4+ solid years of use doesn’t seem bad at all! We don’t have a car though (London) so it was really important to me to invest in a pram that would last well from birth to toddler. Unlike friends who bought bigger ones initially we haven’t needed to buy a second smaller stroller.
