How much did you spend on your pram?

First time mum here and starting to research prams! We were looking at a travel system, but now wondering if it's easier to have a pram/carry cot and car seat separate so there's less faff with messing about every time you need to take the baby in the car.

Looked at Ickle Bubba stomp but some reviews seemed very negative...currently leaning towards the Bugaboo Bee but unsure if £700-£800 is an unnecessary amount of money to spend on a pram/carry cot only! Particularly when we're looking at having a Moses basket in the room anyway?

Any input welcome please Grin

£280 on a joie chrome including carrycot, car seat and base.
It will be coming out soon for dc2.
I could have easily gotten over excited about an expensive pram but this one really did fit us better.

£350 for the baby jogger, best purchase I made 👍 didn’t bother with a carrycot as can go in it from both and my 3yr old can still squeeze in it

Alarae · 19/04/2020 17:54

Around £850 on an Egg travel system (chassis, carrycot, buggy, car seat and isofix base).

Hands up it was purchased for the look but I love it. Used the carrycot for a couple of weeks as an additional bed (before we fell victim to a sleepyhead) but haven't used the buggy part yet as LO is only 7 weeks so still in the carrycot.

My sister purchased the Oyster system and was happy with it. Cost about £300/400 less than mine but its practically the same (made by the same company).

Definitely consider whether or not you plan on more babies and when! I'm pregnant with number 2, DS will be 18 months when baby is born. My DM bought me a beautiful Venicci travel system for £750, love it but if I'd have know I would have went for one that could have converted into a double, I'll have to buy a double now myself although DM did say she'd help out

It depends on your lifestyle and how much walking you do, to be honest.

DC1: we had no car and were in London. Walked or took public transport everywhere. We spent about £450 on an iCandy Raspberry and accessories. Turned out to be an absolute turkey and after various replacements, got a full refund after 18 months. However, when it worked, it was brilliant - lightweight, huge basket, tiny freestanding fold. So I would definitely recommend a lie-flat stroller from birth.

We replaced it with a Mamas and Papas Armadillo Flip, which was pretty good, though heavier and basket not as big. Then got a cheap Maclaren, which was good as DC1 got heavier. Paid about £200 for the Flip (reconditioned ex-display) and £30 for the Maclaren.

DC2: we’ve been using the Flip in lie-flat mode from birth. Works really well. If we were richer, I’d have bought a Bugaboo Bee, but we’re not! We have definitely used it less now we have a car and walk less so not worth buying anything else.

I would recommend a lie-flat stroller for most people that can see you through to toddler-hood, unless you really want something with an old-fashioned carrycot.

For our first dc we bought a tutti bambini travel system for around £350..
When my lo was around 1 we bought £99 mamas and papas stroller and sold the travel system for £100..
When I was pregnant with my second dc I really wanted mamas and papas pram as I was so happy with the quality of the stroller we had, I was looking at buying second hand but then we went to a baby show and we bought a display mamas and papas travel system with lots of extras for £250..
Now my second dc is 1, I will be looking into selling the travel system and re using the stroller again for him..
If I end up having another baby which I would love but it might not happen I will be definitely going to a baby show to grab a bargain..you can get your dream pram for fraction of the price only because it was made and pushed around by few people over two days..

Excitedforxmas · 19/04/2020 23:40

50 quid from a jumble sale

myliffe · 19/04/2020 23:44

About £1300 can't remember the exact price.we got good use out of it though so was money well spent.

RainbowMum11 · 19/04/2020 23:49

Uppababy - lasted us for nearly 4 years (including using the pram bit as a carry cot and has now been passed down to bil & sil and is suiting them brilliantly too.

Ginfordinner · 19/04/2020 23:51

Nothing. My sister gave me her old pram. Actually, I did buy a new mattress for it, but that was 20 years ago now and I can't remember how much I paid.

snowybean · 19/04/2020 23:57

I got the Mothercare travel system pram (£220). Baby is 15 weeks now and it's been great since day one.

Only thing is I've never used the car seat that comes with it. I have a Maxi Cosi Cabriofix car seat (£125) with Family Fix base (£140).

YerAWizardHarry · 20/04/2020 00:03

Think we were around £800 all in including a maxicosi carseat and base. Was the Quinny Buzz which was pretty popular 7 years ago but you barely see them around now which is a shame.

Shmithecat2 · 20/04/2020 00:09

1st - Urbo2 (not carry cot), car seat and base. Bought new, approx £700 for all.
2nd - Baby Jogger CMGT (with some accessories). Bought 2nd hand, £220
3rd - Baby Jogger Premier. Bought 2nd hand, £250
4th - Bugaboo Bee5. Bought new. £500 approx (can't quite remember).
5th - Babyzen Yoyo+. Bought new. £390.

Out of all of them, I've still got the Premier and Yoyo+. If I'd found the Premier first, I'd have only bought that one for everyday use, and then the Yoyo for travel.

That said, the best car seat should be the thing that you look for first, then work the rest of your travel system round that.

sanityisamyth · 20/04/2020 00:21

£250. Was the Mothercare Travel system so had the car seat, pram and pushchair in one. Was brilliant.

£1300 Icandy cerium

It's amazing

HarryHarry · 20/04/2020 00:51

Well over $1000. But it ticked all our boxes. I could have got a cheaper, lower quality, less stylish one but I got the one that made me happy. I have used it every day for years so I consider it money well spent.

GlamGiraffe · 20/04/2020 03:14

800 for a silver cross pioneer limited edition set. I walk a lot so it was lovely to have my dd lying down In the carry cot. She fitted for a long time. It's also very tall handled which suits me as I'm tall and is good for walking. It's not so great for taking in the car as it goes in two to fold but that's not so uncommon I don't think. I later also got a yoyo as a present from my parents as we travel a lot and its fantastic as you take it onto the plane with you and can also easily chuck it into a cab quickly and carry with a shoulder strap. It does come with a carry cot option and car seat adaptors if you want it from birth but for me it's not great for the long walks as the hangles not as high as the pioneer. it's a brilliant pram though

dottydally · 20/04/2020 04:10

£1,000 for the Uppababy Vista. I'd do it again in a heartbeat - it's a fantastic pram and will see us through baby no.2 as well.

Ginandtonic31 · 20/04/2020 06:53

I've just paid £900 for the Ouster 3 whole travel system. Baby is now here and being on lockdown it isn't getting used yet as I imagined but I'm loving it. It feels lovely to push and is so compact it fits under my stairs when down. I'm using the carrycot as a Moses basket in the day when she naps. Like I say, being in lockdown we haven't been many places but when we've been to the hospital or to register her birth I've found the travel system useful as we've gone on the car and just put the seat on the pram for the quick trip inside. Easier than getting her out into the carrycot.

I was going to get the Ickle Bubba for the price point but once in the shop and seeing it side by side with other prams I realise you get what you pay for. The canopy etc on it is flimsy and it feels flimsy to push.

Ladycoo1 · 20/04/2020 07:01

Bought a Mothercare travel system pram for £300. My babies loved the pram so much sitting up right in it seeing the world. So when my daughter out grew the pram at 9month she hated been strapped in the pushchair. So bought a classic Silvercross pram off eBay for £1. Absolutely amazing she loves it. He 5 year old brother can sit in it too facing her. Best buy ever!

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 20/04/2020 07:09

We bought a 2bd hand quinny buzz for £150 off eBay and it wasn't great, clunky and hard to manoeuvre, but I think we were sold a dud. Probably another £50 on replacing bits on it trying to make it better before just accepting it and chucking it out.

Bought a uppababy vista for £60 from facebook market place and it's amazing. I tried it out before I bought it though and it's in almost perfect condition.

You don't have to spend £1000 on a pram, second hand is fine if you can give it a test drive first.

Oh, but buy your car seat new, you can't know what accidents a second hand one may have been in, seems wasteful, but its much safer that was!

bulliedintonamechange · 20/04/2020 07:11

Yeah we got the bugaboo bee. I would say it's worth the money in that it's the going rate and amazing pram BUT it's a bloody rip off, I couldn't get my head around it. Hi for second hand, I would if I turned back time

Blueswede · 20/04/2020 07:15

£120 for a second hand mamas and papas! Works brilliantly. I bought a lot second hand as I couldn’t justify buying everything new when there’s a massive second hand market!

Roselilly36 · 20/04/2020 07:59

£500 for a double mountain buggy, 17yrs ago.

TheGirlFromStoryville · 20/04/2020 08:08

Nearly 20 years ago we paid £700 for a m&p carrycot pram 3 in 1 with car seat, raincover and bag. It was gorgeous!
When DS was born 12 years ago we spent £400 for a silver Cross 3 in 1. It came with the carrycot stand which came in really useful.

My stepdaughter paid about £800 for the icandy peach with car seat 2 years ago.

I think when it's your first you end up with a load of stuff you don't really need, as money's no object.
