Can anyone give me some advice on this as obviously GP's and HV are hard to come by atm!!

Basically DS is 6 months we have been trying food for the last month mainly fruit and veg purees and he is always constipated to the point I have to give him lactulose and help him! (Rubbing his belly and pushing his legs up)

We stopped giving him any food for a few days then started on one meal a day with more fruit than veg as well as prune puree this seemed ok he wasn't having loose stools but wasn't to hard for him to pass now we have started giving him more food again he is severely constipated without the lactulose!!

What can I do? Should I try and get a phone call with the GP!

Bananas and baby rice can be constipating. What food are you giving and how much? Are you offering water alongside?

Eggs can cause constipation as well. All the p fruits are good for easing it, oranges used to do the job for my DD as well.

If you are giving food more than once a day, I'd cut it back to once a day. Are you offering water with the food too? Smile

Hi all thanks for replying ! Yes he has a beaker with water and has a feed after food! Currently only having one meal a day!

Usually a small amount of sweet potatoes and carrot then apple after with prunes!

We was giving him porridge but stopped that as it really constipating him!

Sweet potato can cause constipation too. Is the poo dry or hard and is he in pain?

I'd try some high water foods to help too. So try some steamed broccoli florets as they make a great finger food or maybe some melon. If you want to do purées, cauliflower is high in water and should mash or purée Smile

@JiltedJohnsJulie great thanks will try that! Is is hard and dry without lactulose !

He just gags on finger food at the minute which scares me because DD never did that! X

It's hard not to panic, but their gag reflex is really far forward at that age to protect then from choking.

I know it can be scary but it’s important to try and remember the difference between gagging and choking.

Have a look at this video from the Red Cross on what to do if s baby does choke 🙂

Some more things to try and remember, but you probably know already is that chewing will help him develop and babies can choke on purees and bottles too.
