7 week old am I doing something wrong

Okay long post please bare with me and be kind.

I have a just turned 7 week old and every day is completely different to the day before. He was first diagnosed with reflux and given omeprazole but I wasbt convinced as he wasnt having much of the symptoms. Was then diagnosed with colic and taken off omeprazole and improved lots. Still very windy, arches back and is grouchy and grumpy. Yesterday I purchased colief after using infacol and gripe water for 2 weeks and not really noticing a difference. My husband thinks hes seen a slight improvement since using colief. Hes less grumpy and passing wind much easier

Up until 5 weeks he was having 5oz a bottle as 4oz wasnt enough so the midwife and HV advised to up it. We saw a paediatric nurse who bollocked us for over feeding saying we should be giving him 150ml per kg of his weight. I worked it out and it's about 3oz. We weaned him back to 4 which was very difficult but have since gone back up to 5 because hes just so unsettled. Please give me your experience on this as sometimes he still dosent seem satisfied with just 5oz. The odd time he will have about 4 but more often than not he will finish the whole thing and still chew his hand.

His sleeping is so erratic. Some days we get 3 hours out of him some days hes stirring all night. His napping in the day has improved lots I'm just struggling to read the tired cues until it's too late.

I feel like I'm doing something wrong. My friends have babies around the same age and they say their babies sleep all flipping night.

So my question is the feeding and sleeping. Does it sound normal to you all?

Sorry first time mum and clueless. Hes feeding every 3hours. Some days he may go a further half hour but some days he can barely reach 3 hours without kicking off.

Thanks guys xx

Thankyou.

So last night was much better. I left the baby with his dad and I went to bed at 6PM and woke up at 2am felt great. Took over the baby so husband can slept. He died at 340 and slept till 630 which is great. I observed him for a bit and think it's me with the problem. Even though he grunts and strains for ages he has his eyes closed so hes still asleep. I cant sleep over this noise because it's quite loud. I dont feel safe putting him in his own room just yet cause I'm a wuss so I shoved my finger in my ear and turned over and fell asleep. He then fed at 7 and has just started stirring now.

I also took him out of his crib and put him in his moses basket because I've always thought he seems too big for the crib.

Put the water in the fridge like you said which made feeding over night so much easier.

Feel so much better today xx

Great, it really is about finding what works to get you through the newborn stage. They change so quickly it will get easier.

Laylor · 17/04/2020 10:37

Yes you are right. Every day is completely different to the rest. I'm learning slowly x

How are you getting on now @Laylor? Smile

Laylor · 18/04/2020 11:22

Hes a bit better. Did a four hour stint last night in one go. I got in contact with an old friend who's baby is 16 weeks. Her baby had the exact same as my baby. Restless night lack of sleep amongst other stuff and her baby had milk allergy. Anyway I've been looking back on my last paediatrician discharge letter and it mentioned putting him on allergy milk. Hes got what looks like eczema on his face and a rash and a blocked nose which are signs so I'm going to phone the doctor Monday. X

Sounds like a good plan. This article from Allergy UK has some good tips on talking to your Doctor]] Smile

Change to co-lactase it can be added to babies bottle straight away and is exactly the same as Has been a life saver for us x

CSMD · 18/04/2020 20:24

Sounds exactly like my son when he was born. After trying everything I took recordings to the doctor and cried .. he got omperazole and dairy free milk and that settled it.

Laylor · 18/04/2020 21:30

Yes I also have recordings and today I took photos which I will pass on on monday. Really hope it works for us like it has for you.

Thanks for the link @JiltedJohnsJulie funnily enough I was already reading it as you posted. X

My Ds was 5 weeks premand born 4.4lbs. When i got him home at 4.11 he kept draining bottles and ate 300mil per kg of body weight (I expressed & BF) to make sure he got enough but then realized he took much more. 16 weeks today and 13lbs, but very long rather than big. He still greatly overeats but my HV said to give him what he wanted so I do. Ps still doesnt sleep through the night, unless the odd occasion i feed him at 11pm and he goes till 6am, but when up at 6 im much too tired to stay up that late so im doomed to a 3am feed. Unless your baby jumps up centiles and looks far too big for his frame, I dont think there's anything to worry about.

Laylor · 21/04/2020 11:03

Thank you for that. He does have a milk allergy so have swapped his milk and he did do much better last night. Only woke for two feeds at midnight and 3am and two additional wakes where I just had to pat him tummy back to sleep.

He has his injections tomorrow so yesterdsy before I started the milk I gave him some of my breast milk that I'd frozen and he was really sick. I didnt know that diary I drink transfers through breast milk. Felt awful that i should know this. Anyway we started him on the neocate tea time and he isnt always taking 5oz so I'm wondering if it's a bit more filling.

I imagine my baby is now around 11lb. He was 10lb 4 when he last got weighed. Hes the same and very long

Thanks for taking the time to reply. X
