Cot bed to single bed

Evening everyone,

At what age did you move wee ones from toddler bed to single bed?

DD is 3 and I'm expecting baby 2 in September. DD is currently in her toddler bed (one of the adapt-as-they-grow cots to toddler bed scenarios). She's been in the cot bed since she was about 20 months, so well used to it. Although new baby will obviously be in our room until 6 months, I'm still keen to have a cot set up in their room for bringing them home, just for ease of popping them down etc.

DD will be 3.5 in September... to early for a single? It would mean we could build toddler bed back into a cot in the nursery. It's good quality so keen to reuse if I can!

I have a 3 yr old. She has a single and a toddler bed in her room (she was a shit sleeper so one of us slept in there sometimes) and alternates between the two. She's fine.

DD moved into a single bed at 3.5 to free up the cot bed for the new baby. You can do it whenever. Some people go from a cot straight to a single. In our case DD still has her toddler duvet as it is lighter and easier for her to move, although she sleeps fine with a single duvet on holiday.

Ds was about 2.5 when he moved into a single bed because dd was on the way. I wanted him settled into his new room and new bed well before dd arrived. He was absolutely fine. Dd is now 4.5 and has only just moved into a single bed because there was no need to move her any earlier like there was with ds.

Our eldest went straight in to a double bed from a cot. If you've got the space, it's ace, you can get in with them if you need to when they are unwell or just reading to them on a night. Also great if you need a break from a snoring partner!

Brilliant thanks everyone. DD moved out of the nursery room she was in as a baby to her 'big girl' room last summer so this might be a good opportunity to get her a single bed and new furniture to go with it. That'll let me move the cot bed and chest of drawers back into new babies room with the changer reattached.
