3 weeks old number of poo and pee

Hello mums,

I am a first time mother to 3 weeks and 4 days old daughter. From last night I have noticed the number of poo and pee has reduced. Can you please advise how many times a 3 week year old should poop and pee in a day?

TIA
DD

It really differs per baby and changes over time. For example my wee one would do about 12 wet ones a day and 2 or 3 poopy ones. My nephew would do far far less and maybe only poop every other day. Only a few weeks later it all changed.

I'd only worry if she stops doing any wet nappies or has blood in her pooper seemed really in pain when going.

Thank you so much that's such a relief. She is having 5-8 wet nappies in 24hrs.

From memory, 5 wet nappies a day was considered a minimum. My EBF DC only had a dirty nappy once every 6-9 days from week 2 until 6 months, but this was something that was checked to make sure there was no problem. There wasn't, and it's not uncommon for EBF babies to go longer as the milk is so refined but some key markers to look for are if the baby is passing wind (good sign) and if their tummy is round and hard (potentially bad) and if they seem in discomfort (obv bad).

DD was EBF in those days and she only pooed once a week! I talked to the midwife and GP who both said not to worry because she was gaining weight and having wet nappies (probably 5-6 a day). Things started to move more often when she had some formula and a lot more when she was weaned.

Thank you ladies I am EBF, is it normal to have green poo?

Is the poo always green or is it just occasionally DD00?

Kellymom has produced this handy guidee* on what they should be doing in the first 6 weeks, it covers the number of wet and dirty nappies you should be getting. HTH Smile

Not always, usually it's greenish yellow.
Thank you for the link it's very useful.
