Hungry Baby Vs Anti Reflux

My baby is 6 weeks and for the last couple of weeks he’s been really windy (farting!) and has been bringing up quite a bit of his formula after feeds, sometimes partially digested. It just rolls out of his mouth either when being burped or even half hour or an hour later. He’s been on the same formula since birth however initially I was feeding him pumped milk too. Midwife advised watery spit up suggests reflux and I agree as he can get really distressed after feeds but not consistently, some days are worse than others and sometimes it’s just one or two feeds where it happens.

One health visitor said absolutely no anti reflux or hungry baby for a 6 week old, and another said no problem trying it, so I’m confused! He only poo’s once a day so I’m scared he’ll get constipated with thicker milk but equally I want his food to stay down!

Has anyone got any experience with this? We did try it once with a level 3 teat and he got really exasperated trying to drink it so I didn’t force it and went back to first infant milk with a level 1 teat, but willing to try again.

I weighed him myself and he hasn’t gained in the last week which makes me think he lost a bit of weight when his spit up was at its worst (which we seem to have passed thankfully)

I'm not sure what hungry baby milk would achieve if I'm honest. It makes them feel fuller for longer but has no more calories in. So for a baby who might not be gaining weight, this seems like it could make the situation much worse, not better.

Can I ask what milk he is currently on? Lots of posters are on MN over the last few months saying their LO is having difficulty with either Aptimil or Cow & Gate. Both are made in the same factory.

Anti reflux is much thicker than hungry baby milk. Hungry baby milk hasn’t done anything for reflux for us. Anti-reflux milk solved the reflux issue but made DS extremely constipated, which was worse. What has worked for us though, is burping fairly regularly through the feed, waiting a few minutes before burping and putting a dummy in as soon as he comes off the bottle which helps to keep the milk down

He’s on Hipp Organic. So Hungry baby is out of the question and they does make sense. I was thinking more about the consistency rather than anything else and he’s definitely a hungry baby! We do try and burp mid feed but he gets really upset and cries for his food, which I felt made the problem worse as he’d be taking in more air whilst screaming mid feed!

Frustrating!

Have a look at the Tiger in the Tree hold on YouTube. That usually gets wind up and settles them into the bargain Smile
