Lip licking child

My 8 year old has had on and off lip lickers dermatitis for years, but recently it is has been persistant.

Weather looks like its warming up but no sign of it going away!

Basically looks like a red raw and rough ring going around above his top lip and right around his bottom lip and very sore. does anyone have experience of what would help.
We've had vaseline, savlon, shea butter so far, but as soon he stops it comes right back. not tried hydrocortisone yet from GP, does this help?

In my experience vaseline is the only thing that works. You just have to keep using it.

I have this! It's a nervous tick I have and work is aggravating it at the minute. (NHS frontline)
I find that drinking plenty of water and using vaseline normally clears it up. I put quite a lot of vaseline on at bed time and I use childsfarm moisturizer on it every time I wash my face or brush my teeth. Normally takes a week or so but that usually clears it up for me. I have had to use steroids twice to clear it up but only when it's been really bad.

Thanks all, we have to keep it up then by the sounds of it. I didn't even think this could be a nervous habit either.
