Periods returning

Hello,

Hoping to get a bit of advice. My DD has just turned 5 months. We are mixed feeding a 50/50 breast and formula, but my periods have yet to return. I understood that if you’re not exclusively breastfeeding they resume quite quickly after childbirth, so a bit concerned that something might not be quite right... should I be worried?

Thank you in advance x

Are you using contraception? Some people don't get their periods until after bf has stopped

If you are BFing at night, it's perfectly normal for them not to return just yet Smile

Mine returned after 8 months with my first, and 3 months with my second - was breastfeeding both (although the first was eating solids too). I think it's very haphazard, but I'd say enjoy the fact yours haven't returned because mine are much heavier now :(

I wouldn’t worry , I would embrace it 😝

Mine returned 4 month postpartum and I was exclusively breastfeeding 😔

Mine have returned 9 months post partum- and what great 9 months they were, period free and happy! I am breastfeeding. Period very heavy now (glad I had a spare maternity pad or two left!) Blush

Everyone is different. I never got my periods back with my first who was ff until I went back on the combined pill at 5 months and that forced a monthly withdraw bleed. With my 2nd, I was ebf (didn't even express and bottle feed, literally feeding on demand every hour or 2 around the clock). My periods came back at 3 months and I was ovulating and cycles were like clockwork every 28 days even while I continued to bf until 15 months. You may be someone who needs to stop entirely in order for them to come back.

But you can get pregnant even without having a period first, so make sure you are being careful. I have a friend who went through years of infertility and IVF, got pregnant, ebf and fell pregnant naturally when her baby was only 3 months old because she got caught out even though she had no periods.
