Sleep training 26mths toddler

Please dont ask how but somehow our little one ended sleeping with us in our bed about 6 months ago. Many factors contributed mainly our silliness. He is now 26 months and I am looking for ways to evict him from our bedroom. We put his bed in our bedroom hoping for small steps but he refuses to spend even a minute in his bed. He understand lots but doesnt speak much yet so it is not like we can have a conversation. We cant do cry it out method as he can climb out of cot. We also converted his cot to toddler bed but it hasnt work neither.

Any suggestions would be very much welcomed.

I think you need to get their bed out of your room, otherwise you're just creating more problems for further down the line. And since they're now in a bed have a look at the supernanny method (or silent return I think it's called). Basically continually returning them to bed with no speaking or eye contact or cuddles until they eventually sleep. Like all training you have to be persistent and consistent.

I have no further advice because my 2 year old is an awful sleeper, we've only just cracked him knowing that his room is his.

Try sleeping with the sheets of his toddler bed for a couple of nights too, so the bed has the nice reassuring smell of you.

If he’s not speaking much yet, you can self refer for a hearing test and Speech & Language Therapy in most areas. It might take a while to get appointments but you can always take him back out of the system if he catches up in the meantime

I wasnt considering that DS may have any issues with speech until I saw the above post. Should he really speak much more at his age? He is babbling a lot and uses single words. Certainly he doesnt do two or three word sentences but he understands almost all what is being said to him. He is also bi-lingual or hopefully will be one day as we speak only our native language at home and he gets exposure to English in the nursery where he goes full time.

I think they do usually talk later if they are bilingual. I think there is a bilingual section on MN, it might be useful to ask about his speech in there
