Breastfeeding after tongue tie correction

8 replies

My son had tongue tie and at 8 days old we had it corrected so that he could latch on and be breastfed. He's now 4 weeks old and still not feeding at the breast, he's mostly comfort nursing. My milk supply is low as I've supplemented with formula . Help I don't know what to do???

I think you are probably best getting some RL help Ami as yiu will need support whilst you build up your supply.

Have you got the Helpline Numbers? If so, I’d give them a call this morning.

Congratulations on your new LO too Thanks

Have you looked up youtubr videos on how to get the correct latch? Just keep at it. It can take time.

It took my son and I about a month to figure feeding out after his tongue tie procedure. We used shield when he was getting stressed which helped keep my supply going throughout. For us it was a case of I needed to hold him further round my body so he had to stretch his mouth open to get the nipple. LaLeche league are still offering support by phone and some groups are being held online so it’s worth contacting them for support.

Comfort nursing is important.having baby at the breast as much as possible us what you need to boost supply. Make sure you are really well hydrated and eating enough too.

Thanks everyone I feel more hopeful today as DS has managed longer active feeds thankfully . But every day is different . What does RL stand for out of interest?

RL = Real life Smile

The BFing Helpline Numbers are towards the bottom of this page from the NHS. I really would recommend giving one of them a call in the morning Smile
