How is / was your 8 week old sleeping?

My daughter is just over 8 weeks old, fully breastfed and waking every 1.5 to 2 hours in the night. I’m so nackered, I thought things might have started to get easier after the 6 week growth spurt but it’s actually gotten worse..she used to sleep 3 hours at a time!

Is this normal still for the this stage? I have the week by week’ book which says they can be sleeping up to 5 Hours at at a time so feel like I must be doing something wrong. She also wakes every 2-3 Hours in the daytime.

The thing is I don’t think she’s actually hungry in the night as she wakes up, feeds for only 5-10 mins or less then falls straight back to sleep, no fuss. I think she needs me to settle herself back to sleep but I’m guessing it’s too soon to expect her to be able to self settle?

Do you have a bedtime routine? If you don't, maybe consider trying one. My little one has a solid routine since 2 weeks old and she used to wake once for a feed but now sleeps from 9:30pm - 6:30am. She's 3 months next week. I might be extremely lucky though.

My ds was exactly the same! He suddenly started sleeping longer stretches at just after 12 weeks. We have more of a routine now (15 weeks) and he sleeps roughly 7-7 with one wake up anytime between 12.30 and 2.30. Hang in there! Xxx

I don't know any baby that age that's sleeps 5 hours solid!!! Mine woke every 3/4 hours until about 10 months old and then starting sleeping right through the night at 1 year old. You are doing nothing wrong xxx

My 10 mo still wakes 1-2 hourly through the night. He sleeps from 7.30pm normally first wake up is around 10pm (his best stretch) and then the frequent waking starts. This is biologically normal for lots of babies and protects against SIDS etc. Put the book down and read your baby. Follow her lead x

Absolutely normal. Ignore the book. Rest when you can

If she is sleeping for 2-3 hrs in the daytime, can you try and wake her then so she is getting her extra feeds int he daytime and slightly less sleep, them maybe she will start doing more like 3hrs overnight and 1.5hrs in the day?

So between say 6am and 9pm try and wake her to feed every 2hrs rather than leaving her to sleep 3hrs at a time, then overnight see if she goes a bit longer.

Good sleepers are born not made! I ebf both mine- DS1 fed every 1-2 hours til 12 weeks then every 2-3 til 6 months both day and night. DS2 fed every 2-3 hours from birth, started 4 hour stints of sleep at about 3 weeks old and is now 5mo with 1 night feed on average, sometimes sleeps through. I did nothing different with either of them! I recommend co-sleeping and lots of cake if you can get it. Take care.
