New sleep routine with newborn

My little boy is now 2.5 weeks old. I originally tried to breastfeed but after 5 days he had become dehydrated so we switched to formula and found out that he had lost 12% of his body weight. He’s piling weight on now and we were waking him every 2 hours to feed. We have been told to relax now and he has been naturally waking himself and eating plenty for a week now. Me and my other half have been sleeping in 2x6 hour shifts (22:30-04:30/04:30-10:30) but this is becoming tiresome and my other half will need to return to work soon. The midwife will be signing his weight off tomorrow and we are considering trying to take him to sleep upstairs in his next to me cot. My other half will still stay awake till midnight but I am just looking for tips on how to manage his night feeds etc from midnight onwards whilst tying to maximise my sleep.

Hey !

My rule of thumb with my 8 week old has always been don’t wake a sleeping baby firstly.

Also it does absolutely get better ( or used to it whatever way you look at it) this won’t be forever.

Another useful tip is fill him up during the day and he’ll sleep better at night, I’ve found this took abit of time to settle but has worked well for us!

Try and start a routine of a nighttime and stay consistent you’ll find what works best for you guys

Also with day time naps maybe try to start placing in his basket next to you so he gets used to it I also done this for a while it didn’t work so much but she got used to it! We’ve never really had a problem with her sleeping she also sleeps on her front now we found that works well for her.

Im sure you’re both doing amazing ! Baby is still very new. I’m sure you’ve read up on everything else like getting them used to a comforter ect

Good luck !!!
