ruddynorah · 10/09/2007 12:03

well i don't yet, she's only 16 months but when i do it will be just across the road.

Joash · 10/09/2007 12:04

meant to add - only 1/2 a mile now

moljam · 10/09/2007 12:04

whats ids?

Nemo2007 · 10/09/2007 12:05

think it is around 1 mile to school[10-15m flat walk] and same back. DS will walk it twice a day, DD1 will probably do it 4 times unless she sits in the pram for some.

Furball · 10/09/2007 12:06

1/2 mile there

Joash · 10/09/2007 12:07

Also walk him to the beach three times a week (3 miles from here). They do take to walking pretty quickly, if thats what you're concerned about.

LucyJones · 10/09/2007 12:07

gah, must preview I did of course mean kids lol

well ds' school to be will be a half a mile walk but up a steep hill and as I don't drive I have no choice but to make him walk up it . Just wondering if half a mile is the norm really. Seems some of you walk further!

sparklesandwine · 10/09/2007 12:20

about 3/4 mile each way takes about 10-15 mins depending on how much the ids drag their heels

chopster · 10/09/2007 12:34

a mile. Don't do it unless weather is good though.

NDPHasAKittenOnTheKeyboard · 10/09/2007 12:37

It takes 7 mins to walk to school. It's less than 1/2 a mile

lljkk · 10/09/2007 12:44

Just over a km each way, or about 0.7 miles, 12-15 minutes going in, more time coming home. 3 kids, and one of them usually acts up, especially coming home: they find something to argue/strop about (with me or each other) or they get desperate for the toilet about 1/3 the way home from school, so quite a pain that we walk, really, but I refuse to drive such a short distance.

hana · 10/09/2007 12:44

we walk a mile to school 3 days a week as I'm now working for 2! I hate driving as it takes longer by the time I find somewhere to park, get the kids out of car seats, get the buggy ready etc etc
far less stressful to walk, rain or shine.

mummytheresa · 10/09/2007 12:45

About a mile, mostly downhill
But that means its uphill on the way back

janinlondon · 10/09/2007 12:45

1.2 miles each way.

MamaG · 10/09/2007 12:45

I cross the road

sandyballs · 10/09/2007 12:47

About a ten minute walk on a good day.

About 800 yards - he's only 15 months, so I think he's doing okay to be walking there himself anyway. We use reins. When he goes to 'proper' school he'll be walking between 5 and 20 minutes depending on which school he gets into.

Furzella · 10/09/2007 13:42

3 minute walk on the flat. The school has a TINY catchment area yet they still have to do "Walk to school wednesdays"!! Staggers me - it would take far longer to find a parking space than to walk from anywhere in the catchment area, yet the majority still drive. Nuts.
