I've been potty training my 2 and a half year old for 7 weeks now. She got it really quickly and was dry by the end of the first week. The second week we went completely backwards and she was wet most of the time and now 7 weeks on she's dry in the mornings and has accidents in the afternoons. At least one or two accidents a day. I followed all the advice like took her shopping for big girl pants and used a sticker chart, have since also used smarties but this just isn't working because sometimes after it's been an hour i'll ask her and even say you can have a smartie if you do a wee but she;ll just answer i don't want one, then pee all over the floor 2 minutes later. please help?

maybe she's just not ready yet, maybe leave it a while then try again when you are both less stressed about it?

I haven't started potty training ds yet but have read that it can take ages. Just keep at it and Im sure she will start getting used to it soon. Good luck

I've tried giving up. She won't go back in nappies. The problem is she can do and wants to do it but sometimes she just refuses to. Thanks for the advice.

Hi I have had a very similar problem to this. Spoke to the HV today about it - her advice was to use pull ups or trainer pants(we have a wont wear nappy situation)and lay off it for a few weeks - don't mention using the potty etc but if she choose to then support it and then to try again in a few weeks time (PS its DD that actually has the problem not me - I am potty trained!!!!)

I too am a little desperate! We started potty training our son on Saturday (after several other attempts in the past year!) and it seems we are getting nowhere! He is 3 in 2 weeks and I am desperate. If I ask him if he wants to pee he automatically says no then does it on the floor. If he is alone in the room with the potty he will pee a bit in it and a bit on the floor, but he will never even attempt to pull down his pants. Don't get me started on the poo!!!! I am close to a nervous breakdown (8 months pregnant!) and don't know what else to do! Any ideas?

Lau72,

Why not keep him with no pants on, until he can do the pants up and down bit himself.

Instead of asking 'Do you want the toilet ?' give a choice which can't be answered by 'no'.

i.e. 'Do you want the yellow or the blue potty ? Do you want to wee in the potty or in the garden ?
