Newborn cold?

Over the last few hours DS (7 weeks) has been sneezing and sounds like he has a stuffy nose. He doesn't have a fever, isn't coughing and is generally happily squeaking and smiling.

Should I call the doctors? I'm a first time mom and don't have anyone to ask. I feel like he's fine, as I said above he doesn't have any scary symptoms. He's having wet and dirty nappies and is happy but I don't know if due to his age I should contact someone but with everything that's going on I don't want to add to the pressure on the NHS for no reason!

he sounds perfectly okay. a little sniffle isn't serious. try to relax. and definitely don't need to speak to a doctor. try a vaporub on his chest if his snuffles get worse.

Sounds really, really normal. Things to watch for...

Feeding - snuffly nose can make feeding hard, especially BF, so offer more than usual and don't worry if he pulls away more than usual too, it's hard because he can't breathe through his nose!
Nappies - keep an eye, if he starts wetting less, maybe call the HV
Temp - again, keep an eye
Alertness - is he responsive when awake? Does he seem "with it"? If he's drowsy and hard to wake, call 111

Basically, just like big humans, little babies can get minor colds that give them stuffy noses and snuffly breathing, but otherwise they're fine. You're doing great, trust your gut.

Newborns sneeze all the time, it's how they clear their nose. Try a bit of snufflebaby on a wet flannel on the radiator at bed time.

Snuffebaby is great
Saline solution can be purchased & squeezed up baby's nose

If you don't have the above take baby into bathroom & run the shower as steam will help

Keep baby upright
