Is this normal? Newborn sleep

My 11 day old daughter has a really strange sleep pattern! From what I’ve read, newborns don’t stay awake longer than 1.5-2 hours. Not my baby! She slept from 10pm last night until 2.40am. Then from 3.00am until 6am. Then from 6.30am until 9am. Then from 11am until 11.30am so only half an hour.

Then she stayed awake right until 15.45 and I’m convinced she only went to sleep because I put her in her car seat! She definitely fights her sleep, theres no doubt about it. She’s been asleep now since 15.45 and it’s 19.40pm! Is this a normal sleep pattern for a 11 day old baby? I’ve tried waking her for a feed as it’s been nearly 4 hours but it’s not happening. I’m worried about her. Or is this ok?

Sounds like she has the days and nights mixed up still. Having said that, if you are struggling to wake a baby it can be a cause for concern. Is she waking at all?

I’ve just managed to wake her!

She sleeps well throughout the night though. She’s awake majority of the day

Ok little babies can be hard to settle but they do need lots of day sleep.
At only 11 days, in fact for the first month to six weeks, you can be looking at max 1.5 hours awake time before it’s time for another nap.
So I would do something like this
7am wake baby for milk, change nappy, change baby grow
Small top up if needed
8.30-10am nap
10.30am milk, nappy change, chat to baby and show her things like the window or the mirror
11.30-1.30 nap
2pm milk
Nappy change, little walk around the block
3-4.30pm nap
5pm milk
5.45pm bath
6.15pm milk
6.30pm bed
10pm dreamfeed
Leave to sleep and feed on waking in the night in the dark with minimal stimulation.
In the day do plenty of natural light and noise and cuddles.

I had similar situation and signed up for little ones sleep programme. It has been so useful at getting right sleep/awake times and at the right time. Not too expensive and would 5totally recommend
