toddler diarrhoea at night - what to do?

Hello. Last night when my 14 month old woke at night I found that his room stank and he'd had really bad diarrhoea. It looked like the poo had sunk into his nappy so may have been there for a while before he woke up.

He usually wakes once a night anyway so I didn't think anything of it until I went into the room and picked him up.

He's had diarrhoea all day today (watery stools about 6 times) with his last one before bed being a greyish colour and frothy (sorry TMI). I called 111 and they told me to go see the pharmacist but I am going to see if I can get him to see the GP if this doesn't settle in the next couple of days.

In the meantime, how often should I check on him to see if he has gone again? He's been quite lethargic so I don't want to disturb his sleep but equally I don't want him in a soiled nappy for a long period of time. He's been asleep since 7 without stirring.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I’d check every 3 hours I think. Poor boy- sounds like a tummy bug.

thank you - just went and had a quick check and couldn't smell anything untoward so fingers crossed things are starting to settle down.
