Could anyone advise on when to introduce pillows?

My son is 13 months old, when he turned a year i introduced a baby pillow which was made of soft foam, no matter how many pillow cases i put on it he manages to get to the pillow and rip it apart, i am thinking on giving him a normal pillow but do not know if it is ok to do so any advice would be great.

I only gave mine a pillow when they asked for it. 2+ iirc. They don't actually NEED pillows at this age, so can't see why you would unless they're old enough to want one.

Thank you, in all the books i have looked at nothing is said about pillows. I will not worry about him having one.

The advice used to be not until 12m old. But I'm not sure what it is now.

just use a normal flattish adult pillow - thats what dd got from around the age of 1. No need for special pillows at all - just another excuse to make a few quid out of you.

advice is not under 1, my dd is quite small and didnt get one until about 2yo, although she very rarely puts her head on it...more often than not its a foot rest

EmilyM -my ds2 used to dive for my ds1's "quiet time" pillow that was on the floor in the lounge and snuggle into it so I introduced it then, he was around 13 months.

I secure mine with not only a pillow case but with a flat cot bed sheet. I lay it so it is longways in front of me, put the pillow on it in the middle and wrap the "side" of the sheet nearest to me up over the pillow then the top "side" of the sheet down over the pillow.

This then leaves you with really long bits to both sides of the pillow so I wrap both these under the matress.

Does that make sense? I have a very wriggly son and he has never managed to dislodge it yet!

I just use a synthetic adult pillow as ds2 has a cotbed so it fills the width.
