My 28 month old is about 87cm tall. People keep saying hes short lol. Myself and his dad aren't tall but not tiny either. Anyone else want to share the children's height at this age?

Apparently you double your child’s height at two and that’s how tall they’re going to be. So 174cms

About five nine I think that is.

NikittaBizarre · 29/02/2020 19:06

He was a little smaller when he was 2 that was 4 months ago.

Look in his red book and you can compare him against the average. I believe 86cm is the height of an average 24 month old, and they grow on average about 1cm every 2 months after 2, so it's not overly short, sounds about average to me.

I can't remember what height my ds was at 2, but he was short. He is 5 now and has only just gone into age 4 bottoms. Ds2 is 8months and still in 3 to 6 month clothes. Dh said he was always small and then suddenly had a growth spurt as a teenager and went tall. So dont worry x

Aria2015 · 29/02/2020 19:10

My lo was I the 25th percentile for height at 2. He then went through a huge growth spurt and by 3.5 he was in the 75th percentile. So he's gone from small for his age to tall for his age.

My DS is 2 years and 7 months and he is 98cm. The kids in his nursery are all different heights.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 29/02/2020 19:23

I can't remember at 2, but she was barely 90cm when she started preschool at 3yo- on the 9th centile. Looked very odd next to her 95th centile sister

Now at 7yo and nearly 9yo, they are 125cm and 140cm tall, which is about 65th and 90th centile I believe. Don't think DD2 wi catch up with her sister, but the height discrepancy won't be as large as we thought.

Look in your red book

NikittaBizarre · 29/02/2020 19:32

I've lost the red book oops

It is quite short isn't it? My DD was 84cm when she turned two which I believe is 25th centile.

You can google WHO growth charts, they're the same as the ones in the red book.

NikittaBizarre · 29/02/2020 19:40

It looks between 9th and 25th centile online

My third born was 66cms at birth. Now that’s long

NikittaBizarre · 02/03/2020 15:39

They didn't measure him at birth

BertieBotts · 02/03/2020 15:59

66cm is very long at birth! It's usual in the UK for them not to be measured.

SarahD19 · 02/03/2020 17:42

This thread has made me smile! My DS was 93cm at 2 years 4 months and I got told that was shorter than average 😂

When I looked, I think she must have plotted it wrong. Plus he’s tall compared to his peers for the most part.

I don’t think they measure them at birth now, but they used to. He had jaundice when he was born and had to go to special care ( not called that any more either) and his head and feet touched both ends of the incubator!

Hugsandpastries · 04/03/2020 19:02

My son didn’t reach that height till he was 3.5! (2nd centile).
