Aldi Mamia formula - anyone use?

Jen306 · 29/02/2020 12:26

Thinking of trying the Aldi formula before any of the others, just wondering if anyone else used it or has tried and got any reviews/thoughts?

I work in marketing and fully aware that most formula powders are pretty much the same due to regs bar their marketing and branding power! My sister in law looked absolutely horrified when i said I wasn’t planning on using Aptamil let alone a budget supermarket own... shock horror!

Anyway I don’t let her to put me off but still be good to hear some feedback on the also formula!

Hi, I tried Mamia with my first child at around 6 months old but he didnt take to it. Acouple of weeks later it got discontinued and then some time later they brought it back out.
He liked Cow & Gate which is made in the same factory as Aptamil and identical; it's literally just branded differently. I now use C&G with my second baby because you can get it everywhere as well and it is cheaper than most. You also don't have to worry about it being discontinued or them running out.

I used aptamil to start then switched to aldi mammia when it came out and she was fine, i found aldi less frothy when shaken to mix which is good as meant less air bubbles

Charlottejade89 · 29/02/2020 15:41

I used aldi formula for the full 12 months for my dd and it was fine, mixed well and no issues. she was quite colicky for a few weeks but I changed to anti colic valve bottles and this solved that issue I dont think it was a formula issue

Thanks ladies just nice to hear from people who’ve actually used it!

I used it from when my little boy was about 6 months. We combi fed 6- 9 months then he had Aldi till 12 months and had no issues with it.
I heard a rumour it was made by aptimal for Aldi but I don't know how true that is.

Vanannabananna · 29/02/2020 16:40

We tried 5 other mills and mamia was the only one which didn’t make myDD puke with her reflux.

Yesterdayforgotten · 29/02/2020 20:26

I have heard mamia is more similar to SMA. They are all fine composition wise as they have to be but it is more what your baby takes to. Maybe just try it and see op.

I used Aldi from birth however got to 2 months old and he became really constipated and colicy. So we swapped to C&G comfort milk which he has stayed on until he was 10 months old and we tried to go back to regular formula. It seems he can't tolerate regular milk and the higher level of lactose so we're back on the comfort milk until he's totally weaned off it.

We switched from aptamil to Aldi’s formula and found it much less frothy, therefore my little one didn’t have as much wind. Would really recommend

amazedmummy · 01/03/2020 23:05

Can't compare it to anything else as it's the only one we use. DS has been on it since he was a week old. Still going strong at 14 weeks. We also use aptimil premade if I'm out and about and the combination doesn't do him any harm. He has reflux and we add gaviscon to his bottles to treat that. It's also so much cheaper than others. The only pain is he uses Aldi milk and Lidl nappies....

zoobie2000 · 03/02/2021 22:53

I wouldn't recommend Mamia. We have always been pretty agnostic about formula. Just whatever is going really so long as it's the right stage we've been lucky that our two children (who were both breastfed mainly) took what was going. Anyway, just today we bought Mamia powder from Aldi and it was rotten to say the least. Normally when I open anything for the kids I sniff or taste it first, for some reason I didn't do that today. It smells like someone has put something in it. Have emailed customer care.

Phiphi123 · 04/02/2021 06:52

Have been using mamia formula since birth for my 3month old son with no issues, would recommend if your baby takes to it. We use SMA ready made cartons for when he goes to nanny’s house or out and about.

Hellodarknessmyoldpal · 04/02/2021 14:51

Used it here too. Mine switched happily between aptamil and mamia depending on if i had mamaged to get to Aldi or not. HV said that it was made by Aptamil anyway!

crazymuseummumtobe · 05/02/2021 09:00

We used mamia from the start (occasionally switched to c&g if couldn't get to aldi for any reason) and loved it. I can't comprehend why anyone would poopoo it just for being the cheapest.

charcb · 31/07/2021 18:54

Hi all! New parents here and haven’t cooked since having baby as we survived on pizza / take away / things friends and neighbours cooked for us / ready meals / things we cooked when we had time… but we probably need to get started with that again! We aren’t great cooks and would need something we can batch cook, freeze and that doesn’t require much prep. Ideally that it’s also nutritious 😄 any tips and ideas? We have a slow cooker so can use that too.

riotlady · 31/07/2021 20:06

I used it and it was fine, except that it was often out of stock which was a massive massive pain, as it wasn’t like I could just go to Boots or Sainsburys instead like you would with any other big formula

Peonies33 · 23/06/2023 12:29

Hi, i am currently mix feeding my 5 week old. Using kendamill milk formula as i bought into the hype.

My baby now has reflux. Using gaviscon for that now.

I actually think kendamil gave my baby reflux.
I don't know why i tried kendamill as my first born i used cow&gate & he was good on that just colic.
Anyone else experience similar with kendamil? I'm planning to try c&g for my baby now.

Yesterdayforgotten · 05/07/2023 14:06

@Peonies33 this is a 2 year old thread. You'd be better creating your own for responses.

Kellymarieknights123 · 13/09/2023 20:29

I tried kendamil because of all the hype, it smells nice and creamy but makes too frothy which causes gas and colic, I tried stiring and seemed to be better instead of shaking. I'm now debaiting trying aldi milk as I've heard good things

Emgrey · 15/09/2023 20:29

I use kendamil for my little boy.
He is so so sicky hours even after having a bottle and is a nightmare to wind.

I am going to try the Mamia milk as I just feel it’s not right how sick he is after feeds!

Emgrey · 15/09/2023 20:30

I use Kendamil - my LB is sicky after each bottle and also can be hours after a bottle as well.

I used SMA with my first and don’t know why I didn’t just stick to what I knew - I’m wondering if Kendamil is heavy on his stomach.
Going to give the Mamia formula a go as I have read lots of good things.

Yesterdayforgotten · 19/09/2023 19:20

We used it and it was fine, it became hard to get a hold of and my baby didn't take to it that much though. For those reasons we switched back to Cow & Gate.
