Baby wont sleep anywhere but on me

Hi,

I have a 1 month old who used to sleep in his side sleeper for 12 hours (awake for feeds) at night without trouble.... we are currently lucky if he stays in it for 30 mins at night.

He doesnt seem to get to a deep sleep, wakes and cries for me and I end up bringing him in with me 🙈

My question is at one month is this ok? I dont want it to become routine. Should I be firm now and put him back in his side sleeper or let him sleep with me and give him the comfort?

Far far too early to be firm. Often the newborn sleekness wears off and they become more aware of where they are being put and decide they only want to sleep ok you. It's very common and totally normal.

Have you read about the 4th trimester?

Put a hot water bottle on the side crib and remove before putting down, this will give the illusion of being on nice warm mummy hopefully long enough to fall into a nice sleep.

Same boat here! Two months old and barely in the side-sleeper. So I just looked into safe co-sleeping and am trying not to worry too much about building a rod for my own back Confused

My 5 month old still only sleeps with me. Every attempt at putting him down for the night just won't work. I didn't mind at all as I knew that he felt secure but he's getting so heavy now that I can barely breathe and my boobs are sore Grin he's so alert and aware of everything that goes on around him and I don't know how I can keep him in his bed. Every night we try the same thing over and over again until we give in so we can get some sleep. It doesn't help that he still wakes 5-6 times at night Confused

Mines 7 months, starts the night in his cot, then in the wee hours I bring him into bed with me As he wakes for bf/comfort (currently having bad bout of teething so worse than usual). At newborn age he only wanted to sleep on me, then we had some success using sleepyhead to make him feel snuggled. I don’t mind bed sharing at all - it won’t last forever and he feels safe and secure. Just follow the safety guidance abd enjoy your baby snuggles Smile

Ohhh he's just a little baby! Don't worry about being firm now.
My DS is 7.5 months and currently takes all naps on me but is brilliant at night in his next to me. I don't mind he likes to nap on me they don't stay little for long! 😢
Have you tired swaddling him?

GrumpyHoonMain · 25/02/2020 00:06

Warm the sheets before putting him down. I had to do this a few times a night before DS would sleep in the cot by himself. Also, try and nurse him to sleep before putting him down - it can make them sleep a bit deeper.

Mine slept with me, far easier when breastfeeding too. They are happy well adjusted independent adults now despite dd2 sleeping with us until age 6.

I'd go with it for now and get him back in the cot later. It will probably be easier to do later when he is more ready for it.

Velcro baby! I had one of those. Once you get your head around it, it's lovely. I liked to demonstrate to people how Velcro baby can be used as a hat, a brooch, a handbag, a scarf...

CodenameVillanelle · 25/02/2020 07:18

This is perfectly normal, he's barely a separate person from you, how do you expect him to feel safe sleeping on his own?
Some babies can do it but the majority can't.

Oh my gosh - actually scared to write this incase he senses it and wakes up!

He is currently enjoying his first night in a love to swaddle swaddle. So far he has been in side sleeper for an hour with no crying and no grunty animal noises..... SO FAR!!

Fingers crossed he is a bit more settled!
