there's not a great religious element to Brownies - the promise can be adapted if you have any objections, but it currently reads "to love my God" which covers most religious persuasions, and can be changed if you don't want any God in there at all.
Other than that, a lot of brownie packs meet in church halls only as they tend to be cheaper than most other venues, and things like church parades would depend on individual Brown Owls.

My DSs seem quite cheap in comparison to some of this lot! DS1 guitar lessons, £28 for a 10 week block, DS2 swimming lessons, £24 (IIRC) for 10 week block but he would much rather do football and I am thinking of caving and allowing him to change to football.

bozza · 05/09/2007 11:12

Actually cod don't you think DH was a bit useless to try and fail twice to get shin pads that fit DS. Not that difficult surely? And after standing behind the counter watching me clamber over the pile of stock and try 3 different pairs of security tagged together shin pads on DS the shop assistant had the nerve to suggest that the ones I were buying were bigger than the ones I was taking back because that is what it said on the packet and went on about it.

What age can they start Beavers?

KTeePee · 05/09/2007 11:13

I think ds1 would love beavers/cubs then from what you have told me - but I've probably no chance of getting him in anywhere have I?

Thanks for the tip. I think I know which one some of his classmates are in... though as he has struggled to find anyone else in his class on his wavelength, a different one might me good too...

MrsSpoon · 05/09/2007 11:36

KerryMum they are group lessons at the local High School, trying them just now to see how DS1 gets on, might fork out for individual lessons if he shows enough interest, however he thinks the guitar teacher is fantastic and he does seem to be learning so if he's happy I might just keep him there. If you meet the right criteria the 10 lessons would only be £14!

Also forgot paid £5 for DS1 to have five athletics/sports lessons at School but places were limited and I think DS1 may have missed out. Then £3.30 for a recorder as lessons are starting soon might invest in some ear plugs.

KerryMum, I don't know how other Local Authorities work but DS1's guitar lessons aren't held within his School they are held at a local School that is open for 'community use' in the evenings and weekends, it might be worth phoning round to see if anything similar is done in your area?
