If you work full time how do you feel..

about not being there to collect your DC's from school?
I have worked 3 days aweek so far, so have been able to collect them the other two days.
Am considering going back FT to recoup the setback in career that being PT has caused.
Will I regret not being at teh school gate though?

No, i love the fact that the other mums only ever see me at my best ie parties and other social occassions and they all think i'm some kind of super mum with a glamorous career, if only they knew lol

Sounds tempting.
Not really in with the Mummies at the school anyway so I won't be missing out there.
But I do love to pick up DS's when I can.

I am hoping to be able to work part time so that I can collect DD from school. Although she loves her after school club.

I hate doing the school gates, I find it hard to mix and being an 'outsider' I don't really know how to joing the already established cliques so, for me, I'm glad to not have to do it.. on the other hand I worry that dd might be missing out on forming bonds because I don't know the other parents (dd is only 5).. others seem to walk to school together be on playdates all the time etc

when I first started working FT, I really missed not being there to see their little faces at the end of the school day. I am used to it now (2 years down the line), but I drop them off in the morning, so I keep intouch with school life

Goodnes gracious me. So if I go part time and collect me child at the gate, do I then have to wear flowery stuff.
I guess I have to keep on working full time then, as my wardrobe would not be up to scratch.

I do miss being able to pick my dd up. but not enough to sacrifice my full time salary! Is there any way you could ask to work from home one day a week?

I feel very proud picking my two up from school everyday. I am in no way flowery shirted either!! ha ha that one made me chuckle.

Its lovely to see them fresh from school and get all the happy and sad moments of the day talked out before we get home.

Us stay at home mums should be celebrated just as much as working mums we are all doing the same job at the end of the day just in a different way. There is no right or wrong as long as your children are happy :-)

I get to pick my children up from school every day. There are days I envy those working and wonder about the sacrifices I have made regarding career in order to stay at home full time. However, where I live it seems to be important from a childs social point of view to be there to collect. Many children go to each others houses after school. If I were not there to collect my kids would not be part of this circle of friends i.e. they would be excluded. I see this with the kids who has no parent collecting them - they don't get included. Also my kids are involved in many activities after school hours - again if I were working this would not be an option. I have 4 children so I feel that is fair for me to bite the bullet and stay at home and sacrifice the career and all the stuff that goes with it. I think you are lucky to have your 3 days in work but different strokes for different folks
