Emergency housing

Have been made intentionally homeless due to rent arrears (even though council was supposed to help me with them) and have just been given emergency housing in students accommodation for 60 days. However I am being told that we’re not allowed TVs and are only allowed 2 bags of clothes. What are we supposed to do? Also we HAVE to all sign in every night otherwise we lose the accommodation, but sometimes my son has to work nights so what is he supposed to do? Also there’s no parking allowed my son has a work van so where is he supposed to park it? I know it’s better than being on the streets but I thought they had to take into account my sons work

Can your son leave his work van at work?

I think he’ll have to talk to whoever he signs in with and explain about working nights and ask if he can sign in at a different time of day. The reason you have to sign in is to stop people pretending they need emergency accommodation in order to bump themselves up the priority list, but then they don’t actually stay there.

The no TVs is probably because of the licence.

The lack of space for your possessions is difficult. Is there anyone who could store your stuff for you? Would your son’s employers help you out if there are no friends or family to help?

My sympathies: I know this is difficult. I hope you get somewhere permanent soon.

There’s nothing on the contract stating that we aren’t allowed TVs, that’s just what the manager said to me. I had a word with the security guard and he said it was ok. A TV licence is only necessary if you’re actually watching TV right? Not if you want to play PS4 or watch DVD
