Morning All

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this as I sit and wait on the doctors surgery opening!

My 1 year old (just turned 1) has had hard black tar like poop both last night and this morning, obviously the first thing you go is google it and it says it could be internal bleeding 😳😳!!

Do you think I should call a doctor or midwife for advice xx

Yes take him to the doctor. Has he eaten anything different? I remember being terrified by green poo when mine had eaten a whole load of cucumber, and blue after blueberries...

Beetroot, blackcurrant, blueberries etc. Is he otherwise unwell?

EugenesAxe · 18/02/2020 08:32

Sometimes it can be diet; have you fed them beetroot or similar recently? I think I remember my child having pink wee once and me freaking until I remembered I’d given them it.

Or medication sometimes affects the colour of your excretions.

Hopefully is nothing concerning.

The only time my lot had this was after eating cake with green icing.

Shosha1 · 18/02/2020 08:35

Mine once had scarlet red. Rushed to dr. He had eaten a red wax crayon.

I absolutely freaked out when my then 18 month had that but then my husband pointed out that he'd eaten a load of black pudding the previous day! Fingers crossed this is just diet related OP.

DivGirl · 18/02/2020 08:45

Melena (internal bleeding poo) has a very distinctive smell. Hopefully it's just diet related but I'd get her to the doctors.

GEEpEe · 18/02/2020 08:46

Have they had really irony food recently like green veg or red meat?

BabyMummy2019 · 18/02/2020 08:49

Thanks everyone.....

So I did give him blueberries and grapes yesterday as a snack (haven't given him grapes before)

Also that's funny you saying about green icing as his bday cake has green icing and I'm sure my husband said he gave him some cake at lunch?! (However i didnt think he'd give him the icing but who knows lol)

And he's just changed from formula to blue top milk so I'm hoping it's maybe diet change 🤞🏻

He's not acting as if he's unwell (probably more mischievous than normal)

I'll maybe monitor it today and if it's still black tomorrow take him to the surgery xx

Are you giving iron supplements as they can also cause black poo
