My eldest DD has a doctors appointment on Friday which I’m certain is going to result in an ENT referral.
When I made the routine appointment four weeks ago, nothing was as severe as it is now. Then is was just snoring predominately, and what I think were adenoid issues (purely based on my own experiences) .
So the wait time wouldn’t have bothered me.
But now her hearing is dropping off a cliff, she’s always been slow to respond to us, and we tease her about being deaf when she’s growing (she’s 10, every time she has a growth spurt she goes deaf, it’s now me know it’s coming)
But this last two weeks...it’s awful. She can’t hear me when I’m less than 1m away for example. And it turns out, she’s been masking this for longer than we realised; she’s really very bright and quite a quiet child anyway so has been “filling in the gaps” when she can’t hear us so to say.
We ran a hearing test at the weekend (which isn’t as good etc) but it seemed accurate, DH and I both placed exactly as we’d expect to. Her results ranged from moderate deafness to severe deafness.
So my point, can I choose which hospital they refer us to?
The nearest, has a minimum of a 31 week wait and is rated as needs to improve,p. Every dealing I’ve had with them has been pretty crap.
The next is the same trust, I think but 30 miles away. And waiting times says “to few patients to score”
I’m happy to pay to take her private if not, just don’t know how to begin with that.
