Would you do anything about 8 week old with temp 37.6-37.8

Hi

It’s not technically a temp, so would you give calpol / seek advice? She seems ok, was sick once this morning (not much) and had a bit of a lively nappy but that’s it. She had her vaccinations on Wednesday but that should
be long gone now.

Thanks x

Did she have any other symptoms that caused you to take her temperature? I wouldn't be concerned about that temp in an otherwise ok baby, but looking at the bigger picture, if there is anything else that is worrying you, call 111.

I would be concerned about a temp in a baby that small and would phone OOH for advice.

Thanks both. She felt hot so that’s why I took it. She’s a bit restless but she otherwise seems ok, wet nappies etc.

Normal temp for a baby that young is 36.4 so it is slightly raised. I'd keep a close eye, it could easily be side effects of vaccinations, sometimes it can linger on.

We have a toddler too so it’s a carousel of viruses from nursery.

Forgot to add I'd probably contact OOH for advice just as so small

I’d keep an eye at home, unless it rises to above 38 where I’d call 111 for advice.

As long as she’s alert, drinking milk, wet/dirty nappies and no rash I wouldn’t worry too much.

I have a 9 week old but he's my second child. I'd give calpol 2.5ml and see if it brings it down any, after then ring for advice or take him to be checked out

duebaby2 · 15/02/2020 15:41

Sorry her not him!

Thanks all.

Hi

So her temp shot up to 38.4 last night and she ended up at out of hours so she via 111 - she has a v sore throat and ears, doc diagnosed upper respiratory tract infection and gave me all the threshold markers for when to go back.

She didn’t wake for her bottle during the night, she stirred so we woke her up and gave her one. Her temp was ok. But she didn’t cry at all or kick off like she normally would when needing a bottle. Then she went back to sleep and still asleep now. What would you consider as overly sleepy - or is she just sleeping it off as we would?

Thanks again x
